Memorial for St. Angela Merici<\/p>\n<p>Liturgical texts <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/012715.cfm\">here<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/BEITDONETOME_Fotor.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"470\" height=\"495\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><strong>TODAY&#8217;s <\/strong>Gospel is often used to argue that Catholics have invented or exaggerated the significance of the motherhood of Mary.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, mono; font-size: small;\">\u201cWho are my mother and my brothers?\u201d And looking around at those seated in the circle he said, \u201cHere are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">But then who lived\u00a0the will of God more completely, more perfectly, more obediently than Mary, after her Son? From the moment of the Annunciation <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_17743_1('footnote_plugin_reference_17743_1_1');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_17743_1('footnote_plugin_reference_17743_1_1');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_17743_1_1\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[1]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_17743_1_1\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">and since her birth, since Gabriel says she was &#8220;full of grace&#8221;<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_17743_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_17743_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script>\u00a0until standing beneath the Cross (while others fled), no one quietly lived out the will of God more perfectly. That is to say that no one was <em>more of a mother<\/em> to Jesus, by His own definintion, than this Woman.<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">St Paul tells us that we too have been called to live as Mary did in the Divine Will.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, mono; font-size: small;\">By this &#8220;will&#8221;, we have been consecrated through the offering of the Body of Jesus Christ once for all. (Today&#8217;s first reading)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">The mission of the Church is to evangelize the nations. <em>But the destiny of the Church <\/em>is to be conformed, at the end of time, to the Divine Will\u2014to be <em>living <\/em>in the Divine Will as both Christ and Mary did. This is the mystery that has been hidden for ages, revealed in these last times as the wondrous plan for the People of God. St. Paul revealed it in the pattern of Christ&#8217;s life:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, mono; font-size: small;\">Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted him&#8230; (Phil 2:7-9)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">The Catechism states that the Church &#8216;\u2026will follow her Lord in his death and Resurrection.&#8217; <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_17743_1('footnote_plugin_reference_17743_1_2');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_17743_1('footnote_plugin_reference_17743_1_2');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_17743_1_2\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[2]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_17743_1_2\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\"><em>Catechism of the Catholic Church<\/em>, n.677<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_17743_1_2').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_17743_1_2', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> This is another way of saying that we will be<em> conformed to the will of God. <\/em>Pope St. John XXIII foresaw that the calling of the Second Vatican Council&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>\u2026prepares, as it were, and consolidates the path toward that unity of mankind which is required as a necessary foundation, in order that the earthly city may be brought to the resemblance of that heavenly city where truth reigns, charity is the law, and whose extent is eternity.<\/strong> \u2014POPE JOHN XXIII, Address at the Opening of the Second Vatican Council, October 11th, 1962; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.papalencyclicals.net\/vatican2.htm\">www.papalencyclicals.com<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">This is not the false unity that the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-black-ship-part-ii\/\">Black Ship <\/a><\/em>heralds, but the unity Christ prayed for that <em>&#8220;they may all be one.&#8221;<\/em> <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_17743_1('footnote_plugin_reference_17743_1_3');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_17743_1('footnote_plugin_reference_17743_1_3');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_17743_1_3\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[3]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_17743_1_3\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. For when the Bride of Christ is living as Mary did\u2014conformed completely <em>body, soul, <\/em>and <em>spirit <\/em>to the will of God\u2014then, like her, we will become Immaculate in spirit, prepared as it were for the Wedding with the Lamb&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, mono; font-size: small;\">&#8230;that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. (Eph 5:27)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">This is the purpose of the &#8220;day of the Lord&#8221;, what the Church Fathers referred to symbolically as a &#8220;thousand years&#8221;, <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_17743_1('footnote_plugin_reference_17743_1_4');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_17743_1('footnote_plugin_reference_17743_1_4');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_17743_1_4\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[4]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_17743_1_4\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory. For the wedding day of the Lamb has come, <em>his bride has made herself ready.<\/em> She was allowed to wear a bright, clean linen garment. (The linen represents the righteous deeds of the holy ones.)
