It is important to understand because it reveals to us the &#8220;end time&#8221; plan that is now unfolding&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We could say that the coming of Jesus into the world was the <em>beginning<\/em> of the &#8220;fullness of time.&#8221; As John Paul II said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: small;\">This &#8220;fullness&#8221; marks the moment when, with the entrance of the eternal into time, time itself is redeemed, and being filled with the mystery of Christ becomes definitively &#8220;salvation time.&#8221; Finally, this &#8220;fullness&#8221; designates the hidden <em>beginning<\/em> of the Church&#8217;s journey.<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0\u2014POPE JOHN PAUL II, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/w2.vatican.va\/content\/john-paul-ii\/en\/encyclicals\/documents\/hf_jp-ii_enc_25031987_redemptoris-mater.html\">Redemptoris Mater<\/a>, <\/em>n. 1<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Time has been fulfilled, but <em>not yet consummated. <\/em>That is, Christ the &#8220;head&#8221; accomplished redemption for mankind upon the Cross, but it remains yet for His &#8220;body&#8221;, the Church, to bring it to completion.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>&#8230;as we stand at the threshold of the next millennium&#8230; there must be a continuation and further development of the &#8220;fullness of time&#8221; that belongs the ineffable mystery of the Incarnation of the Word<\/strong>. \u2014POPE JOHN PAUL II, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/w2.vatican.va\/content\/john-paul-ii\/en\/apost_exhortations\/documents\/hf_jp-ii_exh_15081989_redemptoris-custos.html\">Redemptoris Custos<\/a>, <\/em>n. 32<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>There is as much confusion today about the Church&#8217;s eschatological role as there is in today&#8217;s Gospel over Jesus&#8217; role. Some said of Him, &#8220;<em>This is truly the Prophet&#8221; <\/em>while others thought Him to be the Messiah, which is what <em>&#8220;the Christ&#8221;<\/em> means. <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_18668_1('footnote_plugin_reference_18668_1_2');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_18668_1('footnote_plugin_reference_18668_1_2');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_18668_1_2\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[2]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_18668_1_2\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">&#8220;Anointed one&#8221;<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_18668_1_2').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_18668_1_2', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> Jesus was indeed the Messiah, but what about &#8220;the Prophet&#8221;? There was an expectation among the Jews that, in the last times, a special prophet would come. This idea seemed to develop into the expectation of both the Messiah and a reprisal of the prophet Elijah. <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_18668_1('footnote_plugin_reference_18668_1_3');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_18668_1('footnote_plugin_reference_18668_1_3');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_18668_1_3\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[3]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_18668_1_3\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. Deut 18:18; also see Mal 3:23 and Matt 27:49<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_18668_1_3').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_18668_1_3', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> Jesus at one point addressed this expectation:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, mono; font-size: small;\">Elijah will indeed come and restore all things; but I tell you that Elijah has already come. (Matt 17:9)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That is to say that John the Baptist fulfilled this prophecy, and yet Jesus says Elijah will indeed &#8220;come and restore all things.&#8221; So the\u00a0Church Fathers taught\u00a0that, towards the end of the world, this prophecy of a <em>restoration <\/em>through Elijah <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_18668_1('footnote_plugin_reference_18668_1_4');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_18668_1('footnote_plugin_reference_18668_1_4');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_18668_1_4\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[4]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_18668_1_4\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/when-elijah-returns\/\">When\u00a0Elijah Returns<\/a><\/em><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_18668_1_4').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_18668_1_4', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script>\u00a0would come about:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>Enoch and Elijah\u2026 live even now and shall live until they come to oppose Antichrist himself, and to preserve the elect in the faith of Christ, and in the end shall convert the Jews, and it is certain that this has not yet been fulfilled. <\/strong>\u2014St. Robert Bellarmine,<em> Liber Tertius<\/em>, P. 434<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So Elijah has come, but is still coming. Jesus uses this kind of seemingly contradictory language throughout the Gospels where He affirms\u00a0that time is fulfilled, and yet awaits to be completed. For example:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, mono; font-size: small;\">&#8230;the hour is coming, and is now here&#8230; (John 4:23)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jesus is speaking both for Himself <em>and<\/em> His Body, the Church, for <em> they are one<\/em>. Thus,<em> time will not reach completion until the Scriptures that apply to Jesus are likewise fulfilled in His Church\u2014<\/em>albeit in a different mode.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, mono; font-size: small;\">The cup that I drink, you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized&#8230; No slave is greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours&#8230; Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. (Mark 10:39; John 15:20; 12:26)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is no novel idea, but the teaching of the Church:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000066; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS';\">The Church will enter the glory of the kingdom only through this final Passover, when she will follow her Lord in his death and Resurrection. <\/span><\/strong>\u2014<em>Catechism of the Catholic Church, <\/em>n. 677<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>We can better understand what exactly the &#8220;completion&#8221; of the &#8220;fullness of time&#8221; looks like in the Blessed Mother. For she is a mirror of the Church, the Church <em>in personi. <\/em><span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_18668_1('footnote_plugin_reference_18668_1_5');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_18668_1('footnote_plugin_reference_18668_1_5');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_18668_1_5\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[5]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_18668_1_5\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf.\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/key-to-the-woman\/\">Key to the Woman<\/a><\/em><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_18668_1_5').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_18668_1_5', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script>\u00a0John Paul II wrote that the \u00a0 \u00a0 &#8216; &#8220;fullness of time&#8221;&#8230; marks the moment when the Holy Spirit, who had <em>already<\/em> infused the fullness of grace into Mary of Nazareth, formed in her virginal womb the human nature of Christ.&#8217; <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_18668_1('footnote_plugin_reference_18668_1_6');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_18668_1('footnote_plugin_reference_18668_1_6');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_18668_1_6\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[6]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_18668_1_6\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\"><em>Redemptoris Mater, <\/em>n. 12<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_18668_1_6').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_18668_1_6', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> Mary was &#8220;full of grace,&#8221; yes, and yet, it remained for that fullness to be brought to <em>completion<\/em>. And here is how:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>The fullness of grace announced by the angel means the gift of God himself. <\/strong>\u2014POPE JOHN PAUL II, <em>Redemptoris Mater, <\/em>n. 12<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It remained for the <em>nature <\/em>of Jesus to be fully formed in her. It remains then for the &#8220;nature&#8221; of Jesus to be fully formed in the Church in order to bring her to what St. Paul calls <em>&#8220;mature manhood, to the extent of the full stature of Christ.&#8221;<\/em> <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_18668_1('footnote_plugin_reference_18668_1_7');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_18668_1('footnote_plugin_reference_18668_1_7');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_18668_1_7\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[7]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_18668_1_7\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">Eph 4:13<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_18668_1_7').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_18668_1_7', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> The defining moment that brought about this nature in Mary was when she gave her &#8220;<em>fiat<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is what remains now for the Church to give: her total <em>fiat<\/em>, in order that Christ may reign in her, and the Kingdom reign on earth <em>as it is in heaven<\/em>\u2014the consummation of the fullness of time. <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_18668_1('footnote_plugin_reference_18668_1_8');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_18668_1('footnote_plugin_reference_18668_1_8');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_18668_1_8\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[8]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_18668_1_8\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">see\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-coming-new-and-divine-holiness\/\">The Coming New and Divine Holiness<\/a><\/em><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_18668_1_8').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_18668_1_8', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script>\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>Oh!
