John 19:23<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_18948_1_2').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_18948_1_2', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> The difference between the last two and the first is that Jesus &#8220;took off his outer garments&#8221; <em>Himself<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, mono; font-size: small;\">Do you realize what I have done for you? I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do. (Today&#8217;s Gospel)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><em>Take off the &#8220;outer garment&#8221; of your will<\/em>, He is saying, <em>and put on the &#8220;towel&#8221; of My will<\/em>. And what is His will? That we <em>serve <\/em>one another. This means far more, though, than simply &#8220;chipping in&#8221; with the chores. It means investing in the other, giving our whole self. It means stripping ourselves of our complacency, selfishness, and comfort zone so as to go out of ourselves, out of our fear, out of our laziness, out of our reservations and excuses, out of our homes and rectories, and find the sore and tired feet of our brethren, and wash them with an attentive love.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, mono; font-size: small;\">If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another\u2019s feet.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">Have you ever had a conversation with someone who does not look at you, who listens with only one ear, who checks their cellphone, and changes the subject? What Jesus is teaching us is that we must give, and give our <em>whole<\/em> selves.<em> Listen <\/em>to another with your whole heart. And not only listen, but when they are hungry, feed them; when they are naked, clothe them; when they are alone, comfort them; when they are in prison, visit them. Yes, literally! What a stripping of the will this is! But Jesus does not water down His words: <em>as I have done for you, you should also do. <\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">Nor does Jesus only pour water over their feet, but He washes them <em>with<\/em> His holy hands. We can&#8217;t be afraid to &#8220;touch&#8221; the broken heart of another\u2014not with platitudes, but with the investment of time and self. Rather&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>An evangelizing community gets involved by word and deed in people\u2019s daily lives; it bridges distances, it is willing to abase itself if necessary, and it embraces human life, touching the suffering flesh of Christ in others. Evangelizers thus take on the \u201csmell of the sheep\u201d and the sheep are willing to hear their voice. <\/strong>\u2014POPE FRANCIS, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/w2.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/en\/apost_exhortations\/documents\/papa-francesco_esortazione-ap_20131124_evangelii-gaudium.html#_ftnref53\">Evangelii Gaudium<\/a>, <\/em>n. 24<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">How few and far between are the souls who actually <em>care<\/em> today, who care with the Heart of Christ. No wonder we are so lonely. Oh that Jesus would come and wash our feet again with His holy hands.<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">Well, He wants to beloved\u2014through you and me.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, mono; font-size: small;\">He loved his own in the world and he loved them to the end&#8230; (Gospel)<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>&#8230;all of us are asked to obey his call to go forth from our own comfort zone in order to reach all the \u201cperipheries\u201d in need of the light of the Gospel.<\/strong> \u2014POPE FRANCIS, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/w2.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/en\/apost_exhortations\/documents\/papa-francesco_esortazione-ap_20131124_evangelii-gaudium.html#_ftnref53\">Evangelii Gaudium<\/a>, <\/em>n. 20<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, mono; font-size: small;\">Precious in the eyes of the LORD is the death of his faithful ones.
