{"id":21752,"date":"2015-11-30T14:24:56","date_gmt":"2015-11-30T20:24:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/?p=21752"},"modified":"2017-04-17T21:58:34","modified_gmt":"2017-04-18T01:58:34","slug":"something-beautiful","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/something-beautiful\/","title":{"rendered":"Something Beautiful","gt_translate_keys":[{"key":"rendered","format":"text"}]},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\">THE NOW WORD ON MASS READINGS<br \/>for November 29th-30th, 2015<br \/> Feast of Saint Andrew<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Liturgical texts <a href=\"http:\/\/wwwmigrate.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/113015.cfm\"><i>here<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center\" style=\"display: block; float: none; margin: 5px auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Friendshipchristian.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"470\" height=\"352\" data-position=\"3\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>AS<\/b> we begin this Advent, my heart is filled with wonder of the Lord&#8217;s desire to restore all things in Himself, to make the world beautiful again.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We have just spent the last week, including the First Sunday of Advent, hearing the \u201cend time\u201d passages of the Scriptures.<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_21752_1('footnote_plugin_reference_21752_1_1');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_21752_1('footnote_plugin_reference_21752_1_1');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_21752_1_1\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[1]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_21752_1_1\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-beast-beyond-compare\/\"><i>The Beast Beyond Compare<\/i><\/a><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_21752_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_21752_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> They essentially describe a world that has discarded truth, marred beauty, and shunned authentic goodness\u2014and the consequences that unfold from that: war, famine, plagues, divisions, etc. Yes, I believe, as have many of our popes of the past century,<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_21752_1('footnote_plugin_reference_21752_1_2');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_21752_1('footnote_plugin_reference_21752_1_2');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_21752_1_2\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[2]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_21752_1_2\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/why-arent-the-popes-shouting\/\"><i>Why Aren\u2019t the Popes Shouting?<\/i><\/a><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_21752_1_2').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_21752_1_2', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> that we are living in those extraordinary times, the \u201cend times\u201d\u2026 however long they take to unfold. It is not the end of the world, but the end of a long confrontation between the \u201cGospel and the anti-gospel, the Church and the anti-Church\u201d that we are witnessing. <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_21752_1('footnote_plugin_reference_21752_1_3');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_21752_1('footnote_plugin_reference_21752_1_3');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_21752_1_3\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[3]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_21752_1_3\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. Cardinal Karol Wojtyla (ST. JOHN PAUL II ), at the Eucharistic Congress, Philadelphia, PA; August 13, 1976<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_21752_1_3').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_21752_1_3', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script><\/p>\n<p>But the restoration of all things in Christ is not something Jesus will accomplish apart from His Church, but precisely through His mystical Body.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace; font-size: 10pt;\">And he gave some as apostles, others as prophets, others as evangelists, others as pastors and teachers, to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the extent of the full stature of Christ. (Eph 4:11-13)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Here is a mystery: while the world and the cosmos itself, worn out by the long night of sin, groans and convulses under its weight, the Body of Christ is being brought to a maturity, to a holiness \u201cwithout spot or blemish\u201d until the Final Coming of Jesus in His glorified flesh at the end of time. But as it were, a kind of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-vindication-of-wisdom\/\"><i>Vindication of Wisdom<\/i><\/a> will be accomplished before then when Christ\u2019s reign through His Church will be established throughout the world as the fruit of justice.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus wants to bring something beautiful to the world, and this is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-coming-new-and-divine-holiness\/\"><i>Coming of a New and Divine Holiness<\/i><\/a>. And this holiness is also not without its consequences: the restoration of truth, beauty, and goodness\u2014and this will be achieved by a \u201cNew Pentecost\u201d<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_21752_1('footnote_plugin_reference_21752_1_4');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_21752_1('footnote_plugin_reference_21752_1_4');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_21752_1_4\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[4]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_21752_1_4\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/charismatic-part-vi\/\"><i>Charismatic? <\/i><i>Part VI<\/i><\/a><i><\/i><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_21752_1_4').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_21752_1_4', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script><i> <\/i> poured out upon all creation.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><b>\u201cAnd they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.\u201d May God\u2026 shortly bring to fulfillment His prophecy for transforming this consoling vision of the future into a present reality\u2026 It is God\u2019s task to bring about this happy hour and to make it known to all\u2026 When it does arrive, it will turn out to be a solemn hour, one big with consequences not only for the restoration of the Kingdom of Christ, but for the pacification of\u2026 the world. We pray most fervently, and ask others likewise to pray for this much-desired pacification of society.<\/b> \u2014POPE PIUS XI, <i>Ubi Arcani dei Consilioi<\/i> \u201cOn the Peace of Christ in his Kingdom\u201d, December 23, 1922<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But it is precisely through the Body of Christ that this glorious hour will come about when peace and justice will reign to the ends of the earth for a time. And thus, we hear in today\u2019s first reading:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">How beautiful are the feet of those who bring the good news!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Brothers and sisters, it is your feet that the world awaits to bring the good news, to bring the fullness of truth, beauty, and goodness. How? The answer lies in today\u2019s Gospel:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace; font-size: 10pt;\">Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In the weeks ahead, may Jesus teach, equip, and anoint us as He once did Sts. Andrew, Peter, James and John with the wisdom necessary to become authentic Apostles\u2014so that you and I will truly become salt and light to a world that has lost its \u201ctaste&#8221; and is reeling in darkness.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace; font-size: 10pt;\">The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the command of the LORD is clear, enlightening the eye.
