It comes at a time when many Western nations have been or are in the midst of elections.\u00a0That is to say, there is nothing like political rhetoric to cloud the real issues surrounding this crisis. That sounds cynical, but it is a sad reality, and a dangerous one at that. For this is no ordinary migration&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">COMPASSION VS. DISCRETION\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The<b>\u00a0<\/b>first plane of refugees from Syria landed in\u00a0Toronto, Canada this week (Decembe5, 2015). Admittedly, as a Canadian, I am troubled.\u00a0I am deeply concerned for both the Muslims and Christians who are having\u00a0to flee the terror of ISIS and other Islamic thugs. At the same time, I am concerned for my country, which is among many in the crosshairs of an\u00a0Islamic Jihad (&#8220;holy war&#8221; declared against &#8220;infidels&#8221;) being effectively waged in the Middle East. But you can take precautions.<\/b> \u2014interview with Radio Renascenca, Sept. 14th, 2015; <span class=\"s2\"><i><a href=\"http:\/\/nypost.com\/2015\/09\/14\/pope-warns-of-isis-danger-in-refugee-crisis\/\">New York Post<\/a><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Hence, a certain politician said we need to slow the migration process down. And no, I\u2019m not talking about American presidential candidate\u00a0Donald Trump, but the Premier of Saskatchewan, Canada, Brad Wall. In a\u00a0letter to Prime Minster, Justin Trudeau, he said:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-22225 alignleft\" style=\"margin: 2px 5px 2px 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/trudeauselfie_Fotor.jpg\" alt=\"Syrian Refugees\" width=\"250\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/trudeauselfie_Fotor.jpg 519w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/trudeauselfie_Fotor-300x247.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><b>I am asking you to suspend your current plan to bring 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada by the end of the year and to re-evaluate this goal and the processes in place to achieve it\u2026 Surely we do not want to be date-driven or numbers-driven in an endeavour that may affect the safety of our citizens and the security of our country.<\/b> \u2014<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.ca\/2015\/11\/16\/brad-wall-refugees_n_8576514.html\"><span class=\"s2\"><i>Huffington Post<\/i><\/span><\/a>, November 16th, 2015<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p2\">I have no opinion on the virtues\u00a0of any of the\u00a0American political candidates, including Trump, but\u00a0comments calling for a measured implementation of refugees carry\u00a0a certain prudence, particularly on the heels of the Paris and California Islamic terrorist shootings. That is, the Jihad is not coming\u2014it&#8217;s already here.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Of course, it must be repeated that many Muslims desire to live in peace, and are doing so. Growing up, my closest friends were almost always of a different race: Chinese, Native-Indian,\u00a0Filipino and East Indian. When I worked in radio,\u00a0I was good <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-22229\" style=\"margin: 1px 2px 1px 2px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/canadamulti.jpg\" width=\"586\" height=\"293\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/canadamulti.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/canadamulti-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 586px) 100vw, 586px\" \/>friends with a Sikh,\u00a0Pakistani, and Muslim. This is all to say that there isn\u2019t a bone of \u201chate\u201d, \u201cintolerance\u201d, or \u201cracism\u201d in my DNA. So when I say that it is not\u00a0only imprudent but dangerous and irresponsible to rush any kind of immigration process,\u00a0I have in mind present Muslim residents as well. For the more terror attacks that take place, the more peace-loving Muslims are going to suffer suspicion and, sadly, the hatred of true racists.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">INTEGRATION<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Furthermore, there is also the question of acclimation. There has been virtually\u00a0no discussion of\u00a0<em>how\u00a0<\/em>Muslim immigrants\u00a0are going to be integrated into the West\u2014or if they want to be. As Parisians and Londoners already know, devout Muslims tend to stick to their own communities. It is a fact that there are &#8220;no-go&#8221; zones in these\u00a0cities where even local police and fire departments are prevented from entering. Cherson points out in\u00a0a <a href=\"http:\/\/chersonandmolschky.com\/2013\/10\/02\/goalofmuslimimmigration\/\">scholarly article<\/a>, Immigration was considered by Muhammad to be a fundamental means by which to spread Islam, particularly when force cannot be initially used.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>&#8230;the concept of Hijrah\u2014Immigration\u2014as a means of supplanting the native population and reaching the position of power became a well-developed doctrine in Islam&#8230;\u00a0The main principle for a Muslim community in a non-Muslim country is that it must be\u00a0<i>separate and distinct<\/i>. Already in\u00a0the\u00a0<em>Charter of Medina<\/em>, Muhammad outlined the basic rule for\u00a0Muslims who\u00a0emigrate to non-Muslim land, i.e.,\u00a0they must form a separate body,\u00a0keeping\u00a0their own laws and making the host country comply with them.<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 &#8220;The Goal of Muslim Immigration According to Muhammad&#8217;s Teachings&#8221;, Oct. 2nd, 2014; <a href=\"http:\/\/chersonandmolschky.com\/2013\/10\/02\/goalofmuslimimmigration\/\">chersonandmolschky.com<\/a> (this webpage is no longer available. So\u00a0while\u00a0Westerner&#8217;s race to slap the title &#8220;extremists&#8221; onto those who live by\u00a0Sharia Law and Muhammad&#8217;s teachings, this adjective\u00a0was considered offensive to Muslims attending a peace conference in Norway in 2013. This\u00a0short video clip is not the hysteria of angry mobs we&#8217;re used to seeing on television, but is a\u00a0cool, detached reality check:<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/q3RtdDZgcBY\" width=\"470\" height=\"264\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/g7TAAw3oQvg\" width=\"470\" height=\"264\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>Are we\u00a0as North Americans\u00a0prepared to allow Sharia Law to have a place\u00a0in\u00a0our cities and villages? Are we prepared for the sudden arrival of foreigners who at times disdain our\u00a0culture? Have we figured out how to handle the demands of Islam that are often incompatible with Western standards? Do we have government agencies in place to translate, transition and aid\u00a0refugees, already traumatized by having to leave their homes in a trail of war and bloodshed,\u00a0with the mental and physical health issues that this\u00a0will consequently bring?\u00a0And of these refugees, how many of them are\u00a0antagonists to the West, if not members of ISIS?\u00a0And can we even screen them out? Those are questions that no one seems able to answer in the strange rush to bring tens of thousands into our countries in an uncharacteristic hurry. Furthermore, any Muslim who is\u00a0against &#8220;radical&#8221; Islam would, I&#8217;m certain,\u00a0agree with me since the very reason Muslims are fleeing Syria and elsewhere is because of the brutality of Boko Haram, ISIS, and other Islamic sects. It would be a sick irony for refugees to migrate to the West\u00a0only to find ISIS waiting for them again. In Western leader&#8217;s\u00a0haste to be saviours rather than good stewards, this is a grossly underestimated paradox.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">This does not mean that we should not open our doors, but perhaps, that we should open them carefully\u2014as any single one of us always does when a stranger knocks at the door in the middle of the night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CRISIS: HYPOCRISY<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The problem is that far too many\u00a0politicians are governed by political correctness. Moral relativism is their code, and so, whatever appeals to the &#8220;feelings&#8221; of the electorate at the time, nowadays, becomes the rule of law. But feelings cannot rule the day\u2014not when the blood of innocent Parisians, Californians, and Syrians\u00a0is still wet upon the ground. Not when the blood of Canadians may soon join them. This is not hyperbole, but the promise of the Jihadists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">But in political correctness, someone else is usually sacrificed at the altar of hypocrisy. In Canada, at least, it is the Christians. I mean, I am shocked that no one has noticed the irony of what is taking place. I can&#8217;t help but recall the words of radical feminist Camille Paglia who said,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>I have always frankly admitted that abortion is murder, the extermination of the powerless by the powerful. Liberals for the most part have shrunk from facing the ethical consequences of their embrace of abortion, which results in the annihilation of concrete individuals and not just clumps of insensate tissue. The state in my view has no authority whatever to intervene in the biological processes of any woman\u2019s body, which nature has implanted there before birth and hence before that woman\u2019s entrance into society and citizenship.<\/strong> \u2014<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/2008\/09\/10\/palin_10\/\">Salon<\/a><\/em>, Sept. 10th, 2008<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">So while calling abortion for what it is, she goes on to argue the same position of the current Canadian government:\u00a0infanticide\u00a0has a place in public policy. So then, let&#8217;s be honest: what we do in abortion clinics with<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-22275 alignright\" style=\"margin: 1px 2px 1px 2px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/isisbrut_Fotor.jpg\" alt=\"isisbrut_Fotor\" width=\"232\" height=\"203\" \/> pumps and forceps, ISIS does with knives and machine guns\u2014it is the cleansing of a certain unwanted portion of society. Indeed, ISIS judges have gone even further, issuing\u00a0a fatwa<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_22003_1('footnote_plugin_reference_22003_1_14');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_22003_1('footnote_plugin_reference_22003_1_14');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_22003_1_14\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[14]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_22003_1_14\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">Ruling based on Islamic law<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_22003_1_14').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_22003_1_14', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> that children with Down syndrome and other disabilities can be exterminated. If it is true that ISIS is entering our countries on the back of this refugee crisis, they should find our abortion laws (or lack thereof)\u00a0compatible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">There are, of course, no\u00a0refugee centers for the unborn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">And yet, when refugees arrive in Toronto, they will find that the government has provided everything they need, including a tax-payer funded mosque for them to pray in\u2014one for men, and one for women.\u00a0 <iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UgnG26h_Ip4\" width=\"470\" height=\"264\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe> So, while\u00a0practicing Catholics\u00a0have no voice in Parliament (at least in the Liberal Party), prayer in public is often forbidden, and Catholic schools are forced to provide &#8220;gay-straight alliances&#8221;,<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_22003_1('footnote_plugin_reference_22003_1_15');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_22003_1('footnote_plugin_reference_22003_1_15');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_22003_1_15\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[15]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_22003_1_15\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. <em><a href=\"http:\/\/news.nationalpost.com\/news\/canada\/gay-straight-alliances-now-mandatory-in-alberta-were-no-longer-that-redneck-roughneck-province\">The National Post<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>March 11th, 2015<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_22003_1_15').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_22003_1_15', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script>\u00a0at the same time, Western leaders are falling all over themselves to\u00a0educate children against\u00a0&#8220;Isla mophobia&#8221; and accommodate Muslim prayer, culture, and law into every facet of life. Forgive me if I pause to scratch my head.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">While I am pointing out the hypocrisy in all this, I am certainly <em>not<\/em> denouncing in any way the hospitable response toward refugees. Perhaps<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-22278 alignleft\" style=\"margin: 2px 5px 2px 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/refugeechristians_Fotor.jpg\" alt=\"GOSPEL OPPORTUNITY\" width=\"274\" height=\"183\" \/>\u00a0some of those who hold a\u00a0prejudice\u00a0toward Western nations will be\u00a0disarmed when they encounter genuine kindness here.\u00a0It&#8217;s often Christian agencies who are pulling refugees out of boats or standing at airports. The first face they see is often the face of Love, and that should be our\u00a0guiding response too. In fact, could we not say, especially in this Year of Mercy, that this crisis also presents a moment of evangelization, which ultimately, is serving Christ in the least?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me. (Matt 25:35-36)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>We must not be taken aback by their numbers, but rather view them as persons, seeing their faces and listening to their stories, trying to respond as best we can to their situation. To respond in a way which is always humane, just and fraternal. We need to avoid a common temptation nowadays: to discard whatever proves troublesome. Let us remember the Golden Rule: \u201cDo unto others as you would have them do unto you\u201d<\/strong> (Mt 7:12). \u2014POPE FRANCIS, Address to U.S. Congress, September 24th, 2015 (italics my emphasis); <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zenit.org\/en\/articles\/pope-francis-address-to-the-us-congress\"><span class=\"s2\">Zenit.org<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">Give to everyone who asks of you&#8230; Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality&#8230; (Luke 6:30; 12:13)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u00a0Jesus goes a step further, though. And that is to even lay down one&#8217;s life for his enemies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you&#8230; (Matt 5:44)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">This is\u00a0not an imperative that suggests we stand by idly while\u00a0others are abused and killed when it is in our power to defend the powerless. As the Catechism states,\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"color: #003366; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>Legitimate defense can be not only a right but a grave duty for one who is responsible for the lives of others. The defense of the common good requires that an unjust aggressor be rendered unable to cause harm. For this reason, those who legitimately hold authority also have the right to use arms to repel aggressors against the civil community entrusted to their responsibility.<\/strong><\/span> \u2014<em>Catechism of the Catholic Church,\u00a0<\/em>n. 2265<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">When it comes to ISIS, there is a legitimate case for military intervention. That is, the deliberate deconstruction of national sovereignty in order to implement a &#8220;new world order.&#8221; As I&#8217;ve said time and again, those who relegate this to &#8220;conspiracy theory&#8221; simply refuse to examine the public record as well as warnings of the popes of the past century.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">As I wrote recently, world leaders and influential philanthropists have not been shy in revealing\u00a0that &#8220;global warming&#8221; is the tool of choice to restructure the global economy\u2014the groundwork of which was laid in Paris this past December.<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_22003_1('footnote_plugin_reference_22003_1_19');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_22003_1('footnote_plugin_reference_22003_1_19');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_22003_1_19\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[19]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_22003_1_19\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/climate-change-and-the-great-delusion\/\">Climate Change and the Great Delusion<\/a><\/em><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_22003_1_19').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_22003_1_19', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> The basis of their ideology is Marxism, using in these post-modern times the tools of democracy and capitalism to restructure the world. As St. John Paul II said, it is essentially a struggle against the Holy Spirit, a&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>&#8230;rebellion taking place in the human heart [that] finds in every period of history and especially in\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/jpiiteaching.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"183\" height=\"148\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"5\" vspace=\"2\" \/>the modern era its\u00a0<em>external dimension<\/em>, which takes\u00a0<em>concrete form<\/em>\u00a0as the content of culture and civilization, as a\u00a0<em>philosophical system, an ideology, a program for action<\/em>\u00a0<em>and for the shaping of human behavior.<\/em>..\u00a0The system which has developed most and carried to its extreme practical consequences this form of thought, ideology and praxis is dialectical and historical materialism, which is still recognized as the essential core of\u00a0<em>Marxism<\/em>.\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014POPE JOHN PAUL II,\u00a0<em>Dominum et Vivificantem,\u00a0<\/em>n. 56<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p2\">Pope Pius XI foresaw the danger that this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/revolution-now\/\">Revolution<\/a>\u00a0would present that first manifested in a Communism\u00a0that has really not disappeared, but only morphed into its present forms:\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><b>This modern revolution, it may be said, has actually broken out or threatens everywhere, and it exceeds in amplitude and violence anything yet experienced in the preceding persecutions launched against the Church.<\/b>\u00a0\u2014POPE PIUS XI,\u00a0<i>Divini Redemptoris,\u00a0<\/i>Encyclical on Atheistic Communism, n. 2; March 19th, 1937;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/w2.vatican.va\/content\/pius-xi\/en\/encyclicals\/documents\/hf_p-xi_enc_19031937_divini-redemptoris.html\">www.vatican.va<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p2\">With the global economy teetering on the verge of both collapse and restructuring, all that&#8217;s left is a\u00a0&#8220;jihad&#8221; against national sovereignty that\u00a0can likely only be achieved through chaos, and thus fear.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>We are on the verge of a global transformation.
