I hope to be on a better track by next week. <\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><em>I am watching and praying with all of you, especially my American friends as a painful election looms&#8230; <\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>HEAVEN<\/strong> is only for the perfect. It is true!<\/p>\n<p>But then one might ask, &#8220;How can I get to Heaven, then, for I am far from perfect?&#8221; Another might answer saying, &#8220;The Blood of Jesus will wash you clean!&#8221; And this too is true whenever we sincerely ask forgiveness: Jesus&#8217; Blood takes away our sins.\u00a0But does that suddenly make me perfectly selfless, humble, and\u00a0charitable\u2014ie. <em>fully<\/em> restored to the image of God in whom I am created?\u00a0The honest person knows that this is rarely the case. Usually, even after Confession, there are still remnants of the &#8220;old self&#8221;\u2014a need for deeper healing of sinful wounds and cleansing of intention\u00a0and desires. In a\u00a0word, few of us truly love the Lord our God with <em>all<\/em> our heart, soul, and strength, as we are commanded to.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->That&#8217;s why, when a forgiven but imperfect soul dies\u00a0in God&#8217;s grace, the Lord, out of both His mercy and justice, provides the last grace of Purgatory. <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_25013_1('footnote_plugin_reference_25013_1_1');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_25013_1('footnote_plugin_reference_25013_1_1');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_25013_1_1\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[1]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_25013_1_1\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">Though not to be understood as the last grace ever bestowed on a soul in eternity.<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_25013_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_25013_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> \u00a0It is not a second chance, but rather,\u00a0a merit won for us on the Cross. It is a <em>state <\/em>that a <em>saved <\/em>soul passes through in order to perfect it and thus enable it to receive and be united to the pure light and love of God. It is a state in which\u00a0God&#8217;s justice corrects and heals the soul of the injustices which that soul did not make reparation for on earth\u2014the selflessness, humility, and charity which the soul ought to have expressed, but did not.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, let us not take for granted the gift of God&#8217;s forgiveness, which cleanses us of every sin. For the intent of Christ is not only to reconcile us to the Father, but to <em>restore<\/em> us in His image\u2014to replicate Himself in us.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, mono; font-size: small;\">My children, for whom I am again in labor until Christ be formed in you! (Galatians 4:19)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Reconciliation, that is, the forgiveness of our sins is just the <em>beginning<\/em>. The rest of Christ&#8217;s redemptive work is to sanctify us in order that we may &#8220;live and move and have our being&#8221; <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_25013_1('footnote_plugin_reference_25013_1_2');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_25013_1('footnote_plugin_reference_25013_1_2');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_25013_1_2\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[2]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_25013_1_2\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">Acts 17:28<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_25013_1_2').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_25013_1_2', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> in total union with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And this unity, at least in spirit, is not intended to be something reserved <em>only <\/em>for Heaven, as if this life is without\u00a0the peace and communion that belongs to the saints. As Jesus said,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, mono; font-size: small;\">I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Purgatory, then, is a perpetual sign of hope\u00a0that, despite our imperfections, God will complete His work of redemption in those who are reconciled to Him. Purgatory is also a reminder that this life is intended to bring us into union with God <em>here and now.<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, mono; font-size: small;\">Beloved, we are God\u2019s children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope based on him makes himself pure, as he is pure.
