Memorial St. Callistus I<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Liturgical texts\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/101415.cfm\"><i>here<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-21072\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/domestrike5-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"589\" height=\"757\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/domestrike5-1.jpg 634w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/domestrike5-1-233x300.jpg 233w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 589px) 100vw, 589px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\b<b>IN\u00a0<\/b>some ways, it is politically incorrect in many quarters of the Church today to speak about \u201cthe wrath of God.\u201d Instead, we are told, we should give people hope, speak about God\u2019s love, His mercy, etc. And all this is true. As Christians, our message is not called the \u201cbad news\u201d, but \u201cgood news.\u201d And the Good News is this: that no matter the evil a soul has done, if they make an appeal to God\u2019s mercy, they will find forgiveness, healing, and even intimate friendship with their Creator. I find this so wonderful, so exciting, that it is an absolute privilege to preach for Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>But the Scriptures are equally clear that there is also\u00a0<i>bad<\/i>\u00a0news\u2014bad news for those who reject the Good News and remain <em>obstinate<\/em> in sin. Through Jesus Christ, the restoration of the world has begun.\u00a0But if souls choose to reject God\u2019s plan, then they will remain, by choice,\u00a0outside of this restoration. They will remain within the destruction and death that man himself has brought into the world through sin. This is what is called God\u2019s justice or \u201cwrath.\u201d As Our Lord himself testified:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace; font-size: 10pt;\">Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him. (John 3:36)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This wrath is reserved for essentially two categories of people. The first is those who have received the Gospel of love, and yet live persistently contrary to it. In a word,\u00a0<i>hypocrites<\/i>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">Do you suppose, then, you who judge those who engage in such things and yet do them yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you hold his priceless kindness, forbearance, and patience in low esteem, unaware that the kindness of God would lead you to repentance? (First reading)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">You pay tithes of mint and of rue and of every garden herb,<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">but you pay no attention to judgment and to love for God.<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">These you should have done, without overlooking the others. (Today\u2019s Gospel)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The second category of people for whom God\u2019s wrath is reserved are those who live according to the flesh, rejecting until the end &#8220;what can be known about God [which]\u00a0is evident to them.&#8221; <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_28258_1('footnote_plugin_reference_28258_1_1');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_28258_1('footnote_plugin_reference_28258_1_1');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_28258_1_1\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[1]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_28258_1_1\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. Rom 1:19<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_28258_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_28258_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script>\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">By your stubbornness and impenitent heart, you are storing up wrath for yourself for the day of wrath and revelation\u00a0of the just judgment of God, who will repay everyone according to his works: eternal life to those who seek glory, honor, and immortality through perseverance in good works,\u00a0but wrath and fury to those who selfishly disobey the truth\u00a0and obey wickedness. (First reading)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>St. Paul minces no words here: \u201cwrath and fury\u201d, he says. &#8220;Would a loving God be furious?&#8221; some ask.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/wrath_of_god7.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-21064\" style=\"margin-right: 2px; margin-left: 2px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/wrath_of_god7.jpg\" alt=\"wrath_of_god\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>But my question is, \u201cWould a loving God turn a blind eye to the unrepented crimes done against His creation, most especially children, especially when these crimes have the potential to annihilate the world?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>No one can say that God has not done everything possible to save us from ourselves. The Cross is the constant sign that \u201cGod so loved the world.\u201d <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_28258_1('footnote_plugin_reference_28258_1_2');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_28258_1('footnote_plugin_reference_28258_1_2');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_28258_1_2\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[2]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_28258_1_2\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. God is a loving Father, slow to anger and rich in mercy. But understand that those who rebel against His love are not passive; their actions have a profound affect upon not only themselves but others, and very often creation itself. As the book of Wisdom says,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">By the envy of the devil, death came into the world: and they follow him that are of his side. (Wis 2:24-25; Douay-Rheims)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If you are not on God\u2019s side, then you know who you\u2019re working for, and the fruits of Satan\u2019s opposition are not negligible. We are, brothers and sisters, on the brink of a Third World War <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_28258_1('footnote_plugin_reference_28258_1_3');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_28258_1('footnote_plugin_reference_28258_1_3');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_28258_1_3\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[3]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_28258_1_3\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/4th-of-july-fireworks-world-war-iii-with-china-dead-ahead-2015-07-03\">marketwatch.com<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-10-13\/washington-actually-trying-start-world-war-iii\">zerhedge.com<\/a><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_28258_1_3').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_28258_1_3', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> (see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-hour-of-the-sword\/\"><i>The Hour of the Sword<\/i><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/gods-wrath_Fotor7.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-21062\" style=\"margin: 2px 5px 2px 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/gods-wrath_Fotor7.jpg\" alt=\"gods-wrath_Fotor\" width=\"248\" height=\"230\" \/><\/a>Hence, I have published some very stark, difficult, almost incomprehensible warnings this week. And there are more to come. But even these are not God\u2019s justice so much as man simply reaping what he has sown. I take absolutely no joy in writing these things. And yet, it is not my place to censor\u00a0the voice of the prophets, but rather, to discern them with you and the Magisterium.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">Surely the Lord God does nothing, without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets\u2026 I have said all this to you to keep you from falling away\u2026 (Amos 3:7; John 16:1)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In fact, I felt\u00a0the Lord warn me at the very beginning of this writing apostolate that I had no business being politically correct with my mission.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">If, however, the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the sword attacks and takes someone\u2019s life, his life will be taken for his own sin, but I will hold the watchman responsible for his blood. (Ezekiel 33:6)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And so, I am responsible for what I\u2019ve written; you\u2019re responsible for what you\u2019ve read. I know some\u00a0of you forward my writings to family members who refuse to read them. Let it be. No one can outrun God, let alone keep running from His wrath.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace; font-size: 10pt;\">Yes, affliction and distress will come upon everyone who does evil, Jew first and then Greek. (First reading)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So continue to be the face of love and hope\u2014of the Good News\u2014but also truth. I met a man in Louisiana recently who has spent the last six months warning one\u00a0person each day that they need to go to confession and get ready for what is coming. He shared with me some of the extraordinary conversions that were happening as a result.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yes, I think that is precisely the balance: to neither deny that the\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-eye-of-the-storm-part-ii\/\">Great Storm<\/a><\/em>\u00a0is here and coming, and the painful dimensions it is bringing, nor to focus only on the lightning and thunder.
