And among them, the return of the Jews to the fold of Christ.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>THE RETURN OF THE JEWS<\/p>\n<p>There is a keen awareness among some Christians today of the importance of the Jews in prophecy. Unfortunately, however, it is often exaggerated or altogether misunderstood.<\/p>\n<p>The Jewish people still have a role to play in salvation history, as summarized by St. Paul:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers, so that you will not become wise in your own estimation: a hardening has come upon Israel in part, until the full number of the Gentiles comes in, and thus all Israel will be saved, as it is written: \u201cThe deliverer will come out of Zion, he will turn away godlessness from Jacob; and this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins.\u201d (Rom 11:25-27)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That is to say that the Old Testament covenants with the Israelites are <i>fulfilled<\/i> in the New Covenant, in and through Jesus, who takes \u201caway their sins\u201d through the shedding of His Precious Blood. As St. John Chrysostom taught, their reception into the New Covenant comes&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Not when they are circumcised&#8230; but when they attain to the forgiveness of sins. If then this hath been promised, but has never yet happened in their case, nor have they ever enjoyed the remission of sins by baptism, certainly it will come to pass.<\/strong> \u2014Homily XIX on Rom. 11:27<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, as <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"right\" style=\"float: right; margin: 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/wedding_hats_2139761b1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"264\" height=\"165\" data-position=\"3\" \/>St. Paul teaches, God has permitted a &#8220;hardness of heart&#8221; to come upon Israel in order that God&#8217;s plan of universal salvation may come to fruition, so that the &#8220;rest&#8221; of the world may have the opportunity to be reconciled with God the Father. For the Lord &#8220;wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth.&#8221; <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_28262_1('footnote_plugin_reference_28262_1_1');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_28262_1('footnote_plugin_reference_28262_1_1');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_28262_1_1\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[1]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_28262_1_1\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">1 Timothy 2:4<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_28262_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_28262_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script><\/p>\n<p>This hardness that has come upon Israel is not a cause for Christians to judge Jews; on the contrary, it is an opportunity to anticipate the coming unity of the entire People of God that is part of the dramatic events that comprise the &#8220;end times.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">So do not become haughty, but stand in awe. For if God did not spare the natural branches, [perhaps] he will not spare you either. (Rom 11:20-21)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; color: #003366;\"><b>The glorious Messiah&#8217;s coming is suspended at every moment of history until his recognition by &#8220;all Israel&#8221;, for &#8220;a hardening has come upon part of Israel&#8221; in their &#8220;unbelief&#8221; toward Jesus&#8230; The &#8220;full inclusion&#8221; of the Jews in the Messiah&#8217;s salvation, in the wake of &#8220;the full number of the Gentiles&#8221;, will enable the People of God to achieve &#8220;the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ&#8221;, in which &#8220;God may be all in all.&#8221;<\/b><\/span> \u2014<i>Catechism of the Catholic Church<\/i>, n. 674<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>NO TO TWO-COVENANT DUALISM<\/p>\n<p>There is a certain dualism arising in these times, however, that tends to place the Jewish people on a different path of salvation, as if they have their covenants, and Christians have theirs. With respect to the Jews and God&#8217;s promises to them, they are not forgotten:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable. (Rom 11:29)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, the Old Testament covenants cannot be separated from Jesus Christ who is the <i>fulfillment<\/i> of them, and of all religious desire, and the only means by which mankind shall be saved. In the <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"left alignleft\" style=\"margin: 2px 5px 2px 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/jesus11.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"171\" data-position=\"3\" \/>Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews, the Vatican states on its website:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><b>&#8220;In virtue of her divine mission, the Church&#8221; which is to be &#8220;the all-embracing means of salvation&#8221; in which alone &#8220;the fullness of the means of salvation can be obtained&#8221;; &#8220;must of her nature proclaim Jesus Christ to the world&#8221;. Indeed we believe that is through him that we go to the Father <\/b>(cf. Jn. 14:6)<b> &#8220;and this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent&#8221; <\/b>(Jn 17:33)<b>.<\/b> \u2014Commission for Religious Relation with the Jews, \u201cOn the correct way to present the Jews and Judaism&#8221;; n. 7; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianunity.va\/content\/unitacristiani\/en\/commissione-per-i-rapporti-religiosi-con-l-ebraismo\/commissione-per-i-rapporti-religiosi-con-l-ebraismo-crre\/documenti-della-commissione\/en2.html\">christianunity.va<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As Rosalind Moss, a contemporary Jewish-Catholic evangelist put it: becoming Catholic is &#8216;the most Jewish thing a person can do.&#8217; <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_28262_1('footnote_plugin_reference_28262_1_2');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_28262_1('footnote_plugin_reference_28262_1_2');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_28262_1_2\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[2]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_28262_1_2\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. <i>Salvation is From the Jews<\/i>, Roy H. Schoeman, p. 323<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>SHADOWS AND IMAGES<\/p>\n<p>The key to understanding the Old Testament is to read it as a <em>typology<\/em> of Christianity, a symbolic foreshadowing of the New Covenant. Only in this light\u2014the light of the world, who is Jesus\u2014can the Old <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"right\" style=\"float: right; margin: 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Emmaus1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"228\" height=\"228\" data-position=\"3\" \/>Testament&#8217;s relation to the New be understood and cherished and the words of the prophets and patriarchs be fully grasped. Furthermore, most\u00a0<i>all<\/i> religions can be understood ultimately as a search for God, who is the common destiny of all peoples.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"color: #003366; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><b>The Catholic Church recognizes in other religions that search, among shadows and images, for the God who is unknown yet near since he gives life and breath and all things and wants all men to be saved. Thus, the Church considers all goodness and truth found in these religions as &#8220;a preparation for the Gospel and given by him who enlightens all men that they may at length have life.&#8221;<\/b><\/span> \u2014<i>Catechism of the Catholic Church<\/i>, n. 843<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The long history of man, once shattered by original sin, has drawn\u00a0together in a single path toward the Father so as to become\u00a0&#8220;all in all.\u201d That path is Jesus, \u201cthe way and the truth and the life.\u201d This does not mean that everyone will be saved, but only those who comply with God&#8217;s commandments in faith, for as Jesus said: &#8220;If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love&#8230;&#8221; (John 15:10). <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_28262_1('footnote_plugin_reference_28262_1_3');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_28262_1('footnote_plugin_reference_28262_1_3');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_28262_1_3\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[3]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_28262_1_3\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. Church and Judaism cannot then be seen as two parallel ways of salvation, and the Church must witness to Christ as the Redeemer for all, &#8220;while maintaining the strictest respect for religious liberty in line with the teaching of the Second Vatican Council <\/b><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(Declaration\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Dignitaries\u00a0Humanae<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-size: small;\">)<strong>.&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> \u2014Commission for Religious Relation with the Jews, &#8220;On the correct way to present the Jews and Judaism&#8221;; n. 7; <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 10pt;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.christianunity.va\/content\/unitacristiani\/en\/commissione-per-i-rapporti-religiosi-con-l-ebraismo\/commissione-per-i-rapporti-religiosi-con-l-ebraismo-crre\/documenti-della-commissione\/en2.html\">christianunity.va<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>UNITY: THE GREAT RESTORATION<\/p>\n<p>The unity that Jesus\u00a0prayed for is not a unity of religions, but of\u00a0<i>peoples<\/i>. <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"left alignleft\" style=\"margin: 2px 5px 2px 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/2_1_churchonsand_Fotor1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"242\" height=\"227\" data-position=\"3\" \/>Furthermore, this unity will be <i>in Christ, <\/i>that is, His mystical Body, which is the Church. Matt 24:14<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><b>\u201cAnd they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.\u201d May God\u2026 shortly bring to fulfillment His prophecy for transforming this consoling vision of the future into a present reality\u2026<\/b> \u2014POPE PIUS XI, <i>Ubi Arcani dei Consilioi<\/i> \u201cOn the Peace of Christ in his Kingdom\u201d, December 23, 1922<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In the typology of the Old Testament, the Church Fathers saw \u201cZion\u201d as a type of the Church.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">He who scattered Israel, now gathers them together, he guards them as a shepherd his flock\u2026 Shouting, they shall mount the heights of Zion, they shall come streaming to the LORD\u2019s blessings\u2026 there shall be one shepherd for them all\u2026 My dwelling shall be with them; I will be their God, and they shall be my people. (Jeremiah 31:10, 12; Ezekiel 37:24, 27)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This long foretold unity of Jews and Gentiles, purchased through the blood of Jesus, was noted by St. John in his Gospel:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">Caiaphas\u2026 prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation, and not only for the nation, but also to gather into one the dispersed children of God. (John 11:51-52)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to Sacred Scripture and the Church Fathers, the conversion of the Jews begins\u00a0just <em>prior<\/em> to the &#8220;day of the Lord&#8221;, that &#8220;thousand year&#8221; era of peace.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><b>Behold, the Day of the Lord shall be a thousand years.<\/b>\u00a0\u2014Letter of Barnabas, <em>The Fathers of the Church<\/em>, Ch. 15<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the\u00a0prophet Malachi,\u00a0the Lord promises a dramatic reversal; the doors of mercy will be\u00a0flung wide open before the doors of justice:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">Now I am sending to you\u00a0Elijah the prophet,\u00a0before the day of the Lord comes,\u00a0the great and terrible day;\u00a0He will turn the heart of fathers to their sons,\u00a0and the heart of sons to their fathers, lest I come and strike\u00a0the land with utter destruction. (Mal 3:23-24<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Many of the Church Fathers understood this to mean that the &#8220;two witnesses&#8221;, Enoch and Elijah\u2014who did not die, but were assumed into paradise\u2014would return\u00a0to preach the Gospel in order to restore the Jews to the fullness of faith\u2014the &#8220;fathers to their sons&#8221;. \u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">I will commission my two witnesses to prophesy for those twelve hundred and sixty days, wearing sackcloth. (Rev 11:3)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Enoch and Elias the Thesbite shall be sent and shall turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, that is, the synagogue to our Lord Jesus Christ and the preaching of the apostles&#8230;<\/strong> \u2014St. John Damascene, &#8220;Concerning the Antichrist&#8221;,\u00a0<em>De Fide Orthodoxa<\/em>, IV, 26<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>&#8230;the Jews would believe, when the great Elijah would come to them and bring them the doctrine of the faith.\u00a0 The Lord himself said as much: &#8216;Elijah will come and will restore all things.&#8221;<\/strong> \u2014Theodoret of Cyr, Church Father, &#8220;Commentary on the Epistle to the Romans&#8221;,\u00a0<em>Romans<\/em>, b<span class=\"addmd\">y Gerald L. Bray, Thomas C. Oden; p. 287<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The conversion of the Jews to Christianity will leave no little impact\u00a0upon a\u00a0Church that has\u00a0faltered through apostasy, worldliness, and laxity, according to St. Thomas Aquinas:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>What, I say, will such an acceptance mean but that it will make the Gentiles rise to life? For Gentiles are the believers who will grow lukewarm: &#8220;Because wickedness is multiplied, most men&#8217;s love will grown cold&#8221;<\/strong> (Mt 24:12)<strong>, or will fall away entirely, being deceived by Antichrist. These will be restored to their primitive fervor after the conversion of the Jews.<\/strong> \u2014St. Thomas Aquinas, Commentary on the Epistle to the Romans, Rom Ch.11, n. 890; cf.\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/aquinasstudybible\/home\/romans\/st-thomas-aquinas-on-romans\/chapter-1\/chapter-2\/chapter-3\/chapter-4\/chapter-5\/chapter-6\/chapter-7\/chapter-8\/chapter-9\/chapter-10\/chapter-11\">Aquinas Study Bible<\/a><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As I explain below, it would seem that the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart is precisely the &#8220;birthing&#8221; of this unity, at least in its beginning stages, so as to strengthen the Body of Christ against the deceptions\u00a0of Antichrist that will follow the Illumination of Conscience. In the words of the 10th century French Abbot Adso:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Lest the Antichrist come suddenly and without warning and deceive and\u00a0destroy the whole human race by his error, before his arrival the two great prophets Enoch and Elijah will be sent into the world. They will defend God&#8217;s faithful against the attack of the Antichrist with divine arms and will instruct, comfort, and prepare the elect for battle with three and a half years of teaching and preaching. These two very great prophets and teachers will convert the sons of Israel who will live in that time to the faith, and they will make their belief unconquerable among the elect in the face of the affliction of so great a storm.<\/strong> \u2014Abbot Adso of Montier-En-Der,\u00a0<em>Letter on the Origin and Time of Antichrist ; <\/em>(c. 950);\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/pages\/frontline\/shows\/apocalypse\/primary\/adsoletter.html\">pbs.org<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In the vision of the &#8220;woman clothed in the sun&#8221;, she gives birth to a &#8220;male son&#8221;, that is, the whole Body of Christ (it&#8217;s just a &#8220;baby&#8221;, one could say, yet to grow into &#8220;full stature&#8221; and &#8220;manhood&#8221; in the era of peace.) Then St. John sees that&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">&#8230;the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle, so that she could fly to her place in the desert, where, far from the serpent, she was taken care of for a year, two years, and a half. Many people have a problem with Medjugorje, with the fact that the apparitions last too long. They do not understand. But the message is given in a specific context, it corresponds to the situation of the country. In fact, in an alleged apparition of Our Lady of Medjugorje, that has often been confused and misinterpreted, she is asked a\u00a0<br \/>\nquestion whether all religions are the same? Again, <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"left alignleft\" style=\"margin: 2px 5px 2px 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Hildegarde_Fotor1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"295\" data-position=\"3\" \/>this\u00a0birthing appears to include at least some Jews at a precipitous time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><b>The time is coming when princes and peoples will reject the authority of the Pope. Some countries will prefer their own Church rulers to the Pope. The German Empire will be divided. Church property will be secularized. Priests will be persecuted. They will decimate their foes and achieve victory through God\u2019s power\u2026 As a result of this a large number of heathens will join Christians in true faith and they will say, &#8220;The God of the Christians is true God because such wondrous works have been accomplished among the Christians\u201d. <\/b>\u2014St. Hildegard (c. 1179), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spiritdaily.net\/Prophecy-seers\/St.%20Saw%20Huge%20Catastrophes%20for%20great%20nation%20in%20the%20Ocean.htm\">spiritdaily.net<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The fruit of this grace and &#8220;final warning&#8221; before the coming of the &#8220;lawless one&#8221;\u2014who becomes God&#8217;s instrument of justice\u2014would apparently\u00a0include the Jews. Compare St. Faustina\u2019s vision of the \u201cwarning\u201d to that of the prophet Zechariah regarding the Israelites:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><i><b style=\"margin-bottom: 0px;\">Before I come as the just Judge, I am coming first as the King of Mercy. Before the day of justice arrives, there will <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"right\" style=\"float: right; margin: 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/cross1_000_Fot\nor1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"185\" height=\"204\" data-position=\"3\" \/>be given to people a sign in the heavens of this sort: All light in the heavens will be extinguished, and there will be great darkness over the whole earth. Then the sign of the cross will be seen in the sky, and from the openings where the hands and the feet of the Savior were nailed will come forth great lights which will light up the earth for a period of time. This will take place shortly before the last day.<\/b><\/i> \u2014Jesus to St. Faustina, <i>Divine Mercy in My Soul<\/i>, Diary, n. 83; note the \u201clast day\u201d here does not necessarily mean the last 24 hour period, but more likely the \u201cday of the Lord\u201d. See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/faustina-and-the-day-of-the-lord\/\"><i>Faustina, and the Day of the Lord<\/i><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of mercy and supplication, so that when they look on him whom they have thrust through, they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and they will grieve for him as one grieves over a firstborn. (Zech 12:10)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After the sixth seal is opened, St. John sees a special marking that takes place before the chastisement, which includes the Antichrist or &#8220;beast&#8221;.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">Do not damage the land or the sea or the trees until we put the seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.\u201d I heard the number of those who had been marked with the seal, one hundred and forty-four thousand marked <em>from every tribe of the Israelites<\/em>&#8230; (Rev 7:3-4)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As the <i>Navarre Bible<\/i> commentary notes, &#8220;The most plausible interpretation is that the 144, 000 stand for the Jews converted to Christianity.&#8221; <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_28262_1('footnote_plugin_reference_28262_1_13');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_28262_1('footnote_plugin_reference_28262_1_13');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_28262_1_13\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[13]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_28262_1_13\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. <i>Revelation<\/i>, p. 63, footnote 7:1-17<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_28262_1_13').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_28262_1_13', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> Theologian Dr. Scott Hahn notes that this seal is&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><b>&#8230;giving protection to the believing remnant of Israel, who will pass through the tribulation. This may refer to a grace of spiritual perseverance rather than a guarantee of physical survival. In the broader context of Revelation, there is a contrast between the seal of God stamped on the foreheads of the righteous and the mark of the beast inscribed on the brows of the wicked.<\/b> \u2014<i>Ignatius Catholic Study Bible<\/i>, New Testament, p. 501, footnote 7:3<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Again, this is foreshadowed in Revelation 12 when the &#8220;woman clothed in the sun&#8221;, who was &#8220;in labor&#8221;, gives birth to a &#8220;male son&#8221; before the last battle with the beast, and she herself is given refuge in \u201cthe desert&#8221;. <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"left alignleft\" style=\"margin: 2px 5px 2px 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/the-immaculate-conception1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"261\" height=\"352\" data-position=\"0\" \/>Her crown of twelves stars represents both the twelve tribes of Israel and the Twelve Apostles, that is, all the People of God. It is, in fact, a type of the heavenly New Jerusalem, that Eternal City where all the saints will dwell in perpetual Light.<\/p>\n<p>Jerusalem played a large role in Our Lord&#8217;s Passion, Death, and Resurrection, and figures into prophecy in the early Church with the destruction of the temple. However, the Early Church Fathers also foresaw that Jerusalem would once again become the center of the world\u2014for better <i>and<\/i> worse\u2014before the &#8220;sabbath rest&#8221; or &#8220;era of peace&#8221;.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><b>But when The Antichrist shall have devastated all things in this world, he will reign for three years and six months, and sit in the temple at Jerusalem; and then the Lord will come from Heaven in the clouds\u2026 sending this man and those who follow him into the lake of fire; but bringing in for the righteous the times of the kingdom, that is, the rest, the hallowed seventh day\u2026 These are to take place in the times of the kingdom, that is, upon the seventh day\u2026 the true Sabbath of the righteous.<\/b> \u2014St. Irenaeus of Lyons, Church Father (140\u2013202 A.D.); <i>Adversus Haereses<\/i>, Irenaeus of Lyons, V.33.3.4, <i>The Fathers of the Church<\/i>, CIMA Publishing Co.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>St. Paul says something quite interesting about the eventual conversion of Israel to Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">For if their rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance mean but life from the dead? (Romans 11:15)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>St. Paul ties the inclusion of the Jews to the resurrection of the Church.
