But here are the many moments in which Francis faithfully transmitted the truths of the Catholic Faith\u2026 First published April 24, 2018.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>&#8230;as the Church\u2019s one and only indivisible magisterium, the pope and the bishops in union with him carry<\/strong><strong> the gravest responsibility that no ambiguous sign or unclear teaching comes from them, confusing the faithful or lulling them into a false sense of security. <br \/>\n<\/strong>\u2014Gerhard Ludwig Cardinal M\u00fcller, former prefect of the <br \/>\nCongregation for the Doctrine of the Faith;\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstthings.com\/web-exclusives\/2018\/04\/who-may-receive-communion\">First Things<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>April 20th, 2018<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE\u00a0<\/strong>Pope can be confusing, his words ambiguous, his thoughts incomplete. There\u00a0are many rumours, suspicions, and accusations that the current Pontiff is trying to change Catholic teaching. So, for the record, here is Pope Francis&#8230;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">On his vision for the future Pope (who turned out to be him):<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Thinking of the next Pope, he must be a man that from the contemplation and adoration of Jesus Christ, helps the Church to come out to the existential peripheries, that helps her to be the fruitful mother who lives from the sweet and comforting joy of evangelizing.<\/strong> \u2014Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, shortly before being elected the 266th pope; <em>Salt and Light Magazine<\/em>, p. 8, Issue 4, Special Edition, 2013<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">On abortion:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>[Abortion is the] murder of an innocent person.<\/strong> \u2014Sept. 1st, 2017;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.catholicnews.com\/services\/englishnews\/2017\/in-new-book-pope-upholds-traditional-marriage-need-to-help-sinners.cfm\"><em> Catholic News Service<\/em><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Our defence<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong> of the innocent unborn, for example, needs to be clear, firm and passionate, for at stake is the dignity of a human life, which is always sacred and demands love for each person, regardless of his or her stage of development.<\/strong> \u2014<a href=\"http:\/\/w2.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/en\/apost_exhortations\/documents\/papa-francesco_esortazione-ap_20180319_gaudete-et-exsultate.html#_ftnref26\"><em>Gaudete et Exsultate<\/em><\/a>, n. 101<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 65\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-33930\" style=\"margin: 2px 5px 2px 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/popebabies.jpg\" width=\"290\" height=\"355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/popebabies.jpg 432w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/popebabies-245x300.jpg 245w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 290px) 100vw, 290px\" \/>Here I feel it urgent to state that, if the family is the sanctuary of life, the place where life is conceived and cared for, it is a horrendous contradiction when it becomes a place where life is rejected and destroyed. So great is the value of a human life, and so inalienable the right to life of an innocent child growing in the mother\u2019s womb, that no alleged right to one\u2019s own body can justify a decision to terminate that life, which is an end in itself and which can never be considered the \u201cproperty\u201d of another human being.<\/strong> \u2014<em><a href=\"http:\/\/w2.vatican.va\/content\/dam\/francesco\/pdf\/apost_exhortations\/documents\/papa-francesco_esortazione-ap_20160319_amoris-laetitia_en.pdf\">Amoris Laetitia<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>n. 83<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>How can we genuinely teach the importance of concern for other vulnerable beings, however troublesome or inconvenient they may be, if we fail to protect a human embryo, even when its presence is uncomfortable and creates difficulties? \u201cIf personal and social sensitivity towards the acceptance of the new life is lost, then other forms of acceptance that are valuable for society also wither away\u201d.<\/strong> \u2014<em><a href=\"http:\/\/w2.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/en\/encyclicals\/documents\/papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-laudato-si.html\">Laudato si&#8217;<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>n. 120<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>In the last century, the entire world was scandalized by what the Nazis did to ensure the purity of the race. And it is curious, in the law about homosexual marriage \u2026 It\u2019s a contradiction to speak about homosexual marriage.&#8221;<\/strong> \u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/cruxnow.com\/vatican\/2019\/05\/28\/in-new-interview-pope-francis-says-he-knew-nothing-about-mccarrick\/\"><em>Crux<\/em><\/a>, May 28th, 2019<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On March 15th, 2021, the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith published a statement that Pope Francis approved stating that &#8220;gay unions&#8221; cannot receive the &#8220;blessings&#8221; of the Church.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>&#8230;it is not licit to impart a blessing on relationships, or partnerships, even stable, that involve sexual activity outside of marriage (i.e., outside the indissoluble union of a man and a woman open in itself to the transmission of life), as is the case of the unions between persons of the same sex&#8230; [The Church cannot] approve and encourage a choice and a way of life that cannot be recognized as objectively ordered to the revealed plans of God&#8230; He does not and cannot bless sin: He blesses sinful man, so that he may recognize that he is part of His plan of love and allow himself to be changed by Him. He in fact \u201ctakes us as we are, but never leaves us as we are\u201d.<\/strong> \u2014 &#8220;Responsum of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith to a <em>dubium<\/em> regarding the blessing of the unions of persons of the same sex&#8221;, March 15th, 2021; <a href=\"https:\/\/press.vatican.va\/content\/salastampa\/en\/bollettino\/pubblico\/2021\/03\/15\/210315b.html\">press.vatican.va<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">On &#8220;gender ideology&#8221;:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><b>The complementarity of man and woman, summit of divine creation, is being questioned by the so-called gender ideology, in the name of a more free and just society. The differences between man and woman are not for opposition or subordination, but for <i>communion<\/i> and <i>generation<\/i>, always in the \u201cimage and likeness\u201d of God. Without mutual self-giving, neither one can understand the other in depth. The Sacrament of Marriage is a sign of the love of God for humanity and of Christ\u2019s giving <\/b><b>himself for his Bride, the Church.<\/b> \u2014address to Puerto Rican Bishops, Vatican City, June 08, 2015<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>&#8216;Gender theory, he said, has a &#8220;dangerous&#8221; cultural aim of erasing all distinctions between men and women, male and female, which would &#8220;destroy at its roots&#8221; God&#8217;s most basic plan for human beings: &#8220;diversity, distinction. It would make everything homogenous, neutral. It is an attack on difference, on the creativity of God and on men and women.&#8221;&#8216;<\/strong> \u2014<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetablet.co.uk\/news\/12451\/pope-francis-attacks-evil-of-gender-theory-\">The Tablet<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>February 5th, 2020<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">On persons struggling with their sexual identity:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"id id-body_text \" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>During the return flight from Rio de Janeiro I said that if a homosexual person is of good will and is in search of God, I am no one to judge. By saying this, I said what the Catechism says&#8230;\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>A person once asked me, in a provocative manner, if I approved of homosexuality. I replied with another question: \u2018Tell me: when God looks at a gay person, does he endorse the existence of this person with love, or reject and condemn this person?\u2019 We must always consider the person. Here we enter into the mystery of the human being. In life, God accompanies persons, and we must accompany them, starting from their situation. It is necessary to accompany them with mercy<\/strong>. \u2014American Magazine, Sept. 30th, 2013, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americamagazine.org\/pope-interview\">americamagazine.org<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">On homosexuality in the priesthood:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>The issue of homosexuality is a very serious issue that must be adequately discerned from the beginning with the candidates [for the priesthood], if that is the case. We have to be exacting. In our societies it even seems homosexuality is fashionable and that mentality, in some way, also influences the life of the Church. It&#8217;s not just an expression of an affection. In consecrated and priestly life, there&#8217;s no room for that kind of affection. Therefore, the Church recommends that people with that kind of ingrained tendency should not be accepted into the ministry or consecrated life. And this is good. This is healthy. How many seminaries, churches and monasteries will be closed in the coming years due to a lack of vocations? God knows. It is sad to see that this land, which has for long centuries been fertile and generous in producing missionaries, nuns, priests full of apostolic zeal, is entering along with the old continent in a vocational sterility without searching for effective remedies.
