I turned to my son-in-law and said, &#8220;I think I&#8217;m going to crawl under my bed until this day is over.&#8221; He and my daughter and their newborn baby just moved from the East coast to stay with us for the summer. So, as we walked back to the farmhouse, I added a footnote: &#8220;Just so you know, this ministry of mine is often surrounded by a whirlwind, a storm&#8230;&#8221;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Two hours later, we were standing near a corral watching a storm roll in when suddenly it hit: a powerful plough\u00a0wind. It didn&#8217;t matter. In fact, our son Ryan went for a walk on the road to see the storm moments before. Had he gone to the right, instead of the left, he would have been taken out by the falling power lines and poles that were thrown across the road over a span of nearly a quarter mile.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-34568\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_2416-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_2416-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_2416-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_2416.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a heartbreaking storm, as it has changed the landscape here. My thoughts today are with those families whose entire properties have been swept away by floods, hurricanes, and lava in the past year.\u00a0I am also reminded that we cannot cling to this world, even those aspects that are good and beautiful. Everything is temporal, and at best, is to point us toward eternity, not leave us lingering over that which inevitably fades.<\/p>\n<p>With our other daughter getting married in a couple of weeks, I need to be focused on the massive cleanup here, so I may not be able to write as much.
