I use punishment when they themselves force Me to do so; My hand is reluctant to take hold of the sword of justice. Before the Day of Justice, I am sending the Day of Mercy&#8230;\u00a0<\/b><strong>I am prolonging the time of mercy for the sake of [sinners]. But woe to them if they do not recognize this time of My visitation\u2026\u00a0<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u2014Jesus to St. Faustina,\u00a0<em>Divine Mercy in My Soul<\/em>, Diary, n. 126I, 1588, 1160<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>AS\u00a0<\/b>the first light of dawn passed through my window this morning, I found myself borrowing St. Faustina&#8217;s prayer: &#8220;O my Jesus, speak to souls Yourself, because my words are insignificant.&#8221;<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_36710_1('footnote_plugin_reference_36710_1_1');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_36710_1('footnote_plugin_reference_36710_1_1');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_36710_1_1\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[1]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_36710_1_1\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">Diary, n. 1588<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_36710_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_36710_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> This is a difficult subject but one we cannot avoid without doing damage to the entire message of the Gospels and Sacred Tradition. I will draw from dozens of my writings to give a summary of the nearing Day of Justice.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>THE DAY OF JUSTICE<\/p>\n<p>Last week&#8217;s message on Divine Mercy is incomplete without its greater context: <em>&#8220;Before the Day of Justice, I am sending the Day of Mercy&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_36710_1('footnote_plugin_reference_36710_1_2');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_36710_1('footnote_plugin_reference_36710_1_2');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_36710_1_2\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[2]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_36710_1_2\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">Diary, n. 1588<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_36710_1_2').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_36710_1_2', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> If we are presently living in a &#8220;time of mercy,&#8221; it implies that <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-36721 \" style=\"margin: 2px 5px 2px 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/earthtwilight-1024x826.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"280\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/earthtwilight-1024x826.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/earthtwilight-1536x1239.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/earthtwilight-300x242.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/earthtwilight-768x620.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/earthtwilight-640x516.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/earthtwilight.jpg 1800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 280px) 100vw, 280px\" \/>this &#8220;time&#8221; will come to an end. If we are living in a &#8220;Day of Mercy,&#8221; then it will have its <em>vigil<\/em>\u00a0before the dawning of the &#8220;Day of Justice.&#8221; The fact that so many in the Church wish to ignore this aspect of Christ&#8217;s message through St. Faustina is a disservice to billions of souls (see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2019\/04\/17\/can-you-ignore-private-revelation\/\"><em>Can You Ignore Private Revelation?<\/em><\/a>).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Just as the Saturday evening vigil Mass precedes Sunday\u2014the &#8220;day of the Lord&#8221;\u2014so too, the facts strongly suggest that we have entered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2016\/11\/07\/in-this-vigil\/\">into the evening vigil<\/a> of the Day of Mercy, the twilight of this era. As we watch the night of deception spread over the entire earth and the works of darkness multiply\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2019\/01\/30\/the-bloody-red-herring\/\">abortion<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/05\/the-judas-prophecy\/\">genocide<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2014\/09\/26\/hell-unleashed\/\">beheadings<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2017\/10\/02\/the-worst-chastisement\/\">mass shootings<\/a>, terrorist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2011\/11\/19\/merciless\/\">bombings<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2018\/03\/21\/the-hunted\/\">pornography<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2018\/10\/07\/mystery-babylon\/\">human trading<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2019-04-26\/essence-evil-sex-children-has-become-big-business-america\">child sex rings<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2017\/06\/27\/when-the-state-sanctions-child-abuse\/\">gender ideology<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2015\/03\/11\/the-death-of-logic\/\">sexually transmitted diseases<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2018\/04\/13\/a-time-to-weep\/\">weapons of mass destruction<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2019\/02\/28\/the-great-corralling\/\">technological tyranny<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2019\/02\/21\/when-the-stars-fall\/\">clerical abuse<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2019\/02\/01\/on-weaponizing-the-mass\/\">liturgical abuses<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2016\/12\/19\/capitalism-and-the-beast\/\">unfettered capitalism<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2018\/05\/15\/when-communism-returns\/\">the &#8220;return&#8221; of Communism<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2018\/03\/08\/barbarians-at-the-gates\/\">the death of freedom of speech<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-48146305\">brutal persecutions<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2016\/08\/07\/the-crisis-of-the-refugee-crisis\/\">Jihad<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2018\/02\/12\/consider-it-all-joy\/\">climbing suicide rates<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2017\/02\/10\/the-great-poisoning\/\">destruction of nature and the planet<\/a>&#8230; is it not clear that it is we, not God, who are creating a planet of sorrows?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>The Lord\u2019s question: \u201cWhat have you done?\u201d, which Cain cannot escape, is addressed also to the people of today, to make them realize the extent and gravity of the attacks against life which continue to mark human history\u2026 Whoever attacks human life, in some way attacks God himself.<\/strong> \u2014POPE ST. JOHN PAUL II,<em> Evangelium Vitae<\/em>; n. 10<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It is a night of our own making. \u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Today, everything is dark, difficult, but whatever the difficulties we are going through, there is only one Person who can come to our rescue.<\/strong> \u2014Cardinal Robert Sarah, interview with\u00a0<em>Valeurs Actuelles,\u00a0<\/em>March 27th, 2019; cited in<em> Inside the Vatican<\/em>, April 2019, p. 11<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is <em>God&#8217;s<\/em> creation. This is <em>His<\/em> world! He has every right, after having expended all mercy toward us, to exercise justice. To <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2014\/10\/03\/the-coming-lord-of-the-flies-moment\/\">blow the whistle<\/a>. To say enough is enough. But He also respects the awesome and fearful gift of our &#8220;free will.&#8221; Hence,\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. (Galatians 6:7)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Thus,\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>God will send two punishments: one will be in the form of wars, revolutions, and other evils<\/strong>;\u00a0<strong>it shall originate on earth<\/strong> [man reaping what he has sown]<strong>. The other will be sent from Heaven. <\/strong>\u2014Blessed Anna Maria Taigi, <em>Catholic Prophecy<\/em>, P. 76\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>&#8230;let us not say that it is God who is punishing us in this way; on the contrary it is people themselves who are preparing their own punishment. In his kindness God warns us and calls us to the right path, while respecting the freedom he has given us; hence people are responsible. <\/strong>\u2013Sr. Lucia, one of the Fatima visionaries, in a letter to the Holy Father, May 12th, 1982; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vatican.va\/roman_curia\/congregations\/cfaith\/documents\/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20000626_message-fatima_en.html\">vatican.va<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After 2000 years, the time has come for God to deal with those who willfully participate in the works of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/satan-is-real-pope-francis-says-64486\">Satan<\/a> and refuse to repent. This is why tears of blood and oil are streaming down icons and statues all over the world:<img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-20956 alignright\" style=\"margin: 1px 2px 1px 2px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Ladytears_Fotor-1-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"253\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Ladytears_Fotor-1-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Ladytears_Fotor-1-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Ladytears_Fotor-1-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Ladytears_Fotor-1.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 253px) 100vw, 253px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">This is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. (John 3:19)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This should <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/16\/he-calls-while-we-slumber\/\">wake us up<\/a> from our desensitized state. This should make us take stock that the things we read in the daily news are not &#8220;normal.&#8221; These things, in fact, make the angels tremble when they see humanity not only not repenting, but plunging headlong into them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong><em>Determined is the day of justice, the day of divine wrath. The angels tremble before it. Speak to souls about this great mercy while it is still the time for [granting] mercy. \u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u2014Mother of God to St. Faustina, <em>Divine Mercy in My Soul<\/em>, Diary, n. 635<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Yes, I know, &#8220;judgment&#8221; is not the central message of the &#8220;Good News.&#8221; Jesus makes clear, over and over again to St. Faustina, that He has been extending this present &#8220;time of mercy&#8221; in human history so that even &#8220;<em>the greatest sinner&#8221; <\/em><span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_36710_1('footnote_plugin_reference_36710_1_3');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_36710_1('footnote_plugin_reference_36710_1_3');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_36710_1_3\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[3]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_36710_1_3\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2013\/04\/07\/the-great-refuge-and-safe-harbour\/\"><em>The Great Refuge and Safe Harbour<\/em><\/a><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_36710_1_3').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_36710_1_3', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script>\u00a0can turn back to Him. That even if a soul&#8217;s sins &#8220;<em>be as scarlet,&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>He is ready to forgive <em>all<\/em> and\u00a0heal one&#8217;s wounds. Even from the Old Testament, we know God&#8217;s heart toward the hardened sinner:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace; font-size: 10pt;\">&#8230;though I say to the wicked that they shall die, if they turn away from sin and do what is just and right \u2014 returning pledges, restoring stolen goods, walking by statutes that bring life, doing nothing wrong \u2014 they shall surely live; they shall not die. (Ezekiel 33:14-15)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But Scripture is also clear of those who persist in sin:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">If we sin deliberately after receiving knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains sacrifice for sins but a fearful prospect of judgment and a flaming fire that is going to consume the adversaries. (Heb 10:26)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This &#8220;fearful prospect&#8221; is why the angels tremble because this Day of Justice is approaching. As Jesus said in yesterday&#8217;s Gospel:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him. (John 3:36)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Day of Justice is reserved for those who reject the love and mercy of God for the sake of pleasure, money, and power. <em>But, <\/em>and this is so important,\u00a0it is also a day of <em>blessing<\/em> for the Church. What do I mean?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>THE DAY IS&#8230; NOT A DAY<\/p>\n<p>We are given the &#8220;big picture&#8221; from Our Lord as to what this Day of Justice is:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong><em>Speak to the world about My mercy; let all mankind recognize My unfathomable mercy. It is a sign for the end times; after it will come the Day of Justice. <\/em><\/strong>\u2014Jesus to St. Faustina, <em>Divine Mercy in My Soul<\/em>, Diary, n. 848\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In the context of the &#8220;end times&#8221;, the Day of Justice is the same as what Tradition calls &#8220;the day of the Lord.&#8221; This is understood as the &#8220;day&#8221; when Jesus comes to &#8220;judge the living and the dead&#8221;, as we recite in our Creed.<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_36710_1('footnote_plugin_reference_36710_1_4');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_36710_1('footnote_plugin_reference_36710_1_4');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_36710_1_4\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[4]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_36710_1_4\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2014\/11\/26\/the-last-judgments\/\"><em>The Last Judgments<\/em><\/a><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_36710_1_4').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_36710_1_4', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script>\u00a0While Evangelical Christians speak of this as a twenty-four day\u2014literally, the last day on earth\u2014the Early Church Fathers taught something entirely different based on the oral and written Tradition passed onto them:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Behold, the Day of the Lord shall be a thousand years.<\/strong> \u2014Letter of Barnabas, <em>The Fathers of the Church, <\/em>Ch. 15<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\">And again,<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-36722\" style=\"margin: 1px 2px 1px 2px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/earthsunriseocean-1024x933.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"311\" height=\"283\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/earthsunriseocean-1024x933.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/earthsunriseocean-300x273.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/earthsunriseocean-768x700.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/earthsunriseocean-640x583.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/earthsunriseocean.jpg 1152w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 311px) 100vw, 311px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>\u2026this day of ours, which is bounded by the rising and the setting of the sun, is a representation of that great day to which the circuit of a thousand years affixes its limits. <\/strong>\u2014Lactantius, <em>Fathers of the Church:<\/em> <em>The Divine Institutes, Book VII, <\/em>Chapter 14, <em>Catholic Encyclopedia; <\/em><a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/fathers\/07017.htm\">www.newadvent.org<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The &#8220;thousand years&#8221; they are referring to is in Chapter 20 of the Book of Revelation and also spoken of by St. Peter in his discourse on the day of judgment:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">&#8230;with the Lord one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day. (2 Pet 3:8)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Essentially, the &#8220;thousand years&#8221; symbolizes an extended &#8220;period of peace&#8221; or what the Church Fathers called a &#8220;sabbath rest.&#8221; They saw the first four thousand years of human history before Christ, and then the two thousand years after, leading up to the present day, as paralleling the &#8220;six days&#8221; of creation. On the seventh day, God rested. Thus, drawing upon St. Peter&#8217;s analogy, the Fathers saw&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>\u2026as if it were a fit thing that the saints should thus enjoy a kind of Sabbath-rest during that period, a holy leisure after the labors of six thousand years since man was created\u2026 (and) there should follow on the completion of six thousand years, as of six days, a kind of seventh-day Sabbath in the succeeding thousand years\u2026 And this opinion would not be objectionable, if it were believed that the joys of the saints, in that Sabbath, shall be spiritual, and consequent on the presence of God\u2026<\/strong> \u2014St. Augustine of Hippo (354-430 A.D.; Church Doctor), De Civitate Dei, Bk. Rev 20:1-6 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2018\/03\/15\/the-resurrection-of-the-church\/\"><em>The Resurrection of the Church<\/em><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>THE DAY OF VINDICATION<\/p>\n<p>So, it is not only a day of judgment, but a day of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2009\/08\/19\/the-vindication-of-wisdom\/\">vindication<\/a><\/em> of God&#8217;s Word. Indeed, Our Lady&#8217;s tears are not only sorrow for the unrepentant, but joy for the &#8220;triumph&#8221; that is coming. For both Isaiah and St. John testify\u00a0that, after a severe judgment, there is coming a new glory and beauty that God wishes to bestow upon the Church in the final stage of her earthly pilgrimage:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;\">Nations shall behold your vindication, and all kings your glory; You shall be called by a new name pronounced by the mouth of the LORD\u2026 To the victor I shall give some of the hidden manna; I shall also give a white amulet upon which is inscribed a new name, which no one knows except the one who receives it.
