CCC, n. 890<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_37197_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_37197_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> However, when it comes to matters of science, politics, economics, etc., the Church generally steps aside, limiting herself to being a guiding voice in terms of ethics and morality as pertains to the development and dignity of the person and stewardship of the earth. \u00a0<!--more-->\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><b>\u2026the Church has no particular expertise in science\u2026 the Church has got no mandate from the Lord to pronounce on scientific matters. We believe in the autonomy of science.<\/b> \u2014Cardinal Pell, Religious News Service, July 17th, 2015; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.religionnews.com\/2015\/07\/17\/cardinal-george-pell-takes-swing-pope-francis-environmental-encyclical\/\">relgionnews.com;<\/a>\u00a0Note: Pell is awaiting an appeal hearing as of this writing for a conviction that increasingly appears to be a possible miscarriage of justice.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And yet, the Vatican has increasingly become outspoken on the issue of man-made &#8220;global warming&#8221; \u2014 as if it is now a scientific fact and settled matter (&#8220;global warming&#8221; is a term that hardly anyone but the Vatican uses anymore; &#8220;climate change&#8221; became the new coin word after fraudulent science and tampering with statistics placed &#8220;global warming&#8221; prognostications in serious doubt.) Indeed, studies continue to emerge throwing the notion of man-made global warming and its accompanying computer models into serious doubt. Take for instance a recent peer-reviewed study that found climate models to have exaggerated global warming <em>by as much as 45%<\/em>. <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_37197_1('footnote_plugin_reference_37197_1_2');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_37197_1('footnote_plugin_reference_37197_1_2');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_37197_1_2\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[2]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_37197_1_2\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. <a href=\"https:\/\/niclewis.files.wordpress.com\/2018\/04\/lewis_and_curry_jcli-d-17-0667_accepted.pdf\">Lewis and Curry<\/a><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_37197_1_2').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_37197_1_2', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script><\/p>\n<p>So why has the Pope so firmly stood behind &#8220;global warming&#8221; alarmism? Indeed, just today the Holy Father became a veritable spokesman for the United Nations, not only echoing their increasingly questionable warnings but even promoting their carbon tax initiative:\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Dear friends, time is running out! &#8230;A carbon pricing policy is essential if humanity wants to use the resources of creation wisely&#8230; the effects on the climate will be catastrophic if we exceed the 1.5\u00baC threshold outlined in the Paris Agreement goals.<\/strong> \u2014POPE FRANCIS, June 14th, 2019; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/environment\/2019\/06\/14\/pope-francis-urges-carbon-penalties-to-avert-climate-catastrophe\/\">Brietbart.com<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He goes on to say:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>In the face of a climatic emergency, we must take appropriate measures, in order to avoid committing a grave injustice towards the poor and future generations.\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014Ibid.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Pontifical Academy of Sciences, and thus Francis, are basing their conclusions off of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is not a scientific body. Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, the Bishop-Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>There is now a growing consensus that human activities are having a discernible effect on the Earth&#8217;s climate (IPCC, 1996). An enormous amount of effort has gone into the scientific research that forms the basis for this judgment.<\/strong> \u2014cf. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholic.org\/news\/green\/story.php?id=50128\">Catholic.org<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s troubling since the IPCC has been discredited on several occasions. For one, a carbon tax actually <em>punishes<\/em> the poor, hampers youth struggling with <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-37208\" style=\"margin: 2px 5px 2px 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/yellowvest2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/yellowvest2.jpg 487w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/yellowvest2-300x274.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 296px) 100vw, 296px\" \/>minimum wage jobs, and hurts rural commuters, truckers and cab drivers, while doing nothing to the climate. Here, in my province of Saskatchewan, Canada, a carbon tax was imposed two months ago. Gasoline rose 20 cents more per litre by the next morning, adding for many us <em>hundreds<\/em> of dollars per month in increased costs while doing absolutely nothing for the apparent climate apocalypse. In fact, carbon taxes and subsequent fuel hikes resulted in the &#8220;Yellow Vest&#8221; riots that erupted in France this year. <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_37197_1('footnote_plugin_reference_37197_1_6');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_37197_1('footnote_plugin_reference_37197_1_6');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_37197_1_6\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[6]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_37197_1_6\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/12\/03\/france-fuel-protests-heres-whats-happening-and-why-it-matters.html\">cnbc.com<\/a><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_37197_1_6').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_37197_1_6', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script><\/p>\n<p>As co-founder of the environmental group Greenpeace retorts to climate change hype:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>We do not have any scientific proof that we are the cause of the global warming that has occurred in the last 200 years\u2026The alarmism is driving us through scare tactics to adopt energy policies that are going to create a huge amount of energy poverty among the poor people. It\u2019s not good for people and it\u2019s not good for the environment\u2026In a warmer world we can produce more food.<\/strong> \u2014Dr. Patrick Moore,\u00a0<em>Fox Business News<\/em> with Stewart Varney, January 2011; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/larrybell\/2013\/01\/22\/the-u-n-s-global-warming-war-on-capitalism-an-important-history-lesson-2\/#60ac4f1329be\">Forbes.com<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s a fact. More CO2, means more warmth, means more conducive growing conditions. The most destabilizing and troubling times for humanity, from a climate standpoint, have occurred when the earth has entered cooling periods known as little &#8220;ice ages.&#8221; Swedish climate expert, Dr. Fred Goldberg, not only notes how the earth has been much warmer, long before man produced carbon emissions, but submits that we could enter into another ice age \u201cany time\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>If we go down to the last 4000 to 3500 years in the Bronze Age period, it was three degrees warmer than today on the northern hemisphere at least\u2026 we had a new peak in high temperature in 2002 after a solar activity maximum, now the temperature is going down again. So we are heading into a cooling period.<\/strong> \u2014April 22nd, 2010;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160512101942\/http:\/\/en.people.cn\/90001\/90777\/90853\/6959757.html\">en.people.cn<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But perhaps the most difficult aspect of the Vatican&#8217;s unequivocal support for &#8220;climate change&#8221; is that it appears remarkably naive of the clear and stated agenda of the United Nations: using &#8220;global warming&#8221; to redistribute wealth, not alter the climate<em>.<\/em>\u00a0As an official on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) quite candidly admitted:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>\u2026one has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy.\u00a0 Instead, climate change policy is about how we redistribute <em>de facto<\/em> the world\u2019s wealth\u2026<\/strong> \u2014Ottmar Edenhofer,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2010\/11\/19\/climate-talks-or-wealth-redistribution-talks\/\">dailysignal.com<\/a>, November 19th, 2011<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2018\/05\/15\/when-communism-returns\/\"><em>Communism<\/em><\/a> in a lab suit. The Chief Climate Change official of the United Nations, Christine Figueres, stated:<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-35231\" style=\"margin: 1px 2px 1px 2px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Ecosocialism.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"323\" height=\"276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Ecosocialism.jpg 413w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Ecosocialism-300x256.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 323px) 100vw, 323px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><b>This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years\u2014since the industrial revolution.<\/b> \u2014November 30th, 2015;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unric.org\/en\/latest-un-buzz\/29623-figueres-first-time-the-world-economy-is-transformed-intentionally\">unric.org<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Nonetheless, the Vatican&#8217;s position is that&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><b>\u2026a number of scientific studies indicate that most global warming in recent decades is due to the great concentration of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxides and others) released mainly as a result of human activity\u2026 The same mindset which stands in the way of making radical decisions to reverse the trend of global warming also stands in the way of achieving the goal of eliminating poverty.<\/b> \u2014<i><a href=\"http:\/\/w2.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/en\/encyclicals\/documents\/papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-laudato-si.html\">Laudato si\u2019<\/a>, <\/i>n. 23, 175<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>THE REAL CRISES<\/p>\n<p>There are so many contradictions in all of this that it is a bit mind-boggling. It leaves one wondering who on earth is advising Pope Francis on this issue, and are they themselves mislead\u2014or are <em>they<\/em> misleading the Holy Father? I am reminded again of Massimo Franco, one of the leading \u201cVaticanists\u201d and a correspondent for the Italian daily\u00a0<em>Corriere della Sera, who\u00a0<\/em>stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Cardinal Gerhard M\u00fcller, the former Guardian of the Faith, a German cardinal&#8230; said in a recent interview that the Pope is surrounded by spies, who tend not to tell him the truth, but what the Pope wants to hear.<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014<em>Inside the Vatican,\u00a0<\/em>March 2018, p. 15<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If the Pope has been led to believe that the planet is about to crater through man-made climate change as a result of immoral practices, then it is no surprise that he is raising his voice. The problem is that the &#8220;science&#8221; that promotes this is so wrought with manipulation and fraud, as I have pointed out in two articles now (see below), that the Church may be doing far more harm than good at this point. In fact, it&#8217;s not global warming but\u00a0<em>global poisoning\u00a0<\/em>that is the most egregious and immediate crisis facing mankind: the poisoning of the oceans, the poisoning of agricultural practices and food, the poisoning of so much of what we clean, wear, and consume (see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/2017\/02\/10\/the-great-poisoning\/\"><em>The Great Poisoning<\/em><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>In fact, has anyone made the Pope aware of the chemical experiments taking place in the atmosphere in order to combat so-called global warming? As far back as 1978, in a clearly documented U.S. Congressional report, it is admitted that several national <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"margin: 2px 5px 2px 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/ChemtrailII.jpg\" width=\"320\" height=\"190\" align=\"right\" hspace=\"2\" vspace=\"1\" \/>governments, agencies and universities have been actively engaged in attempting to modify climate as both a <em>weapon<\/em> and means of changing weather patterns. <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_37197_1('footnote_plugin_reference_37197_1_7');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_37197_1('footnote_plugin_reference_37197_1_7');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_37197_1_7\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[7]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_37197_1_7\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. All the more reason that we ought to pray very hard for our shepherds, and particularly Pope Francis\u2014and, to follow his advisement on these very issues:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>There are certain environmental issues where it is not easy to achieve a broad consensus. Here I would state once more that the Church does not presume to settle scientific questions or to replace politics. But I am concerned to encourage an honest and open debate so that particular interests or ideologies will not prejudice the common good.<\/strong> \u2014<em><a href=\"https:\/\/w2.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/en\/encyclicals\/documents\/papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-laudato-si.html\">Laudato si&#8217;<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>n. 188<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In that regard, this article today is to continue an honest and open debate precisely so that &#8220;interests and ideologies&#8221; contrary to the Gospel do not prevail. While I never thought I would agree much with Greenpeace, I think Dr. Patrick Moore has exposed current climate science for what it is: an ideological battlefront.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><b>Climate change has become a powerful political force for many reasons. First, it is universal; we are told everything on Earth is threatened. Second, it invokes the two most powerful human motivators: fear and guilt\u2026 <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"left alignright\" style=\"margin: 1px 2px 1px 2px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/global_warming-burn1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"277\" height=\"221\" data-position=\"3\" \/>Third, there is a powerful convergence of interests among key elites that support the climate \u201cnarrative.\u201d Environmentalists spread fear and raise donations; politicians appear to be saving the Earth from doom; the media has a field day with sensation and conflict; science institutions raise billions in grants, create whole new departments, and stoke a feeding frenzy of scary scenarios; business wants to look green, and get huge public subsidies for projects that would otherwise be economic losers, such as wind farms and solar arrays. Fourth, the Left sees climate change as a perfect means to redistribute wealth from industrial countries to the developing world and the UN bureaucracy.<\/b> \u2014Dr. Patrick Moore, P.h.d., co-founder of Greenpeace;
