There reached a point when He was surrounded by so much division, so much rancour, so much accusation and betrayal, that words could no longer speak or pierce hardened hearts. <em>Only His Blood could carry His voice and complete His mission<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-family: trebuchet ms, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Many gave false witness against him, but their testimony did not agree&#8230; But He was silent and made no answer.<\/strong> (Mark 14:56, 61)<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, too, at this hour, hardly any voices agree in the Church anymore. Confusion abounds. Authentic voices are persecuted; dubious ones are lauded; private revelation is despised; questionable prophecy is promoted; schism is openly entertained; truth is relativized; and the papacy has all but lost its moral authority through not only continual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/have-we-turned-a-corner\/\">ambiguous messaging<\/a> but outright endorsement of a dark global agenda.<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_50631_1('footnote_plugin_reference_50631_1_1');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_50631_1('footnote_plugin_reference_50631_1_1');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_50631_1_1\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[1]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_50631_1_1\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/climate-confusion\/\">here<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/pope-francis-denounces-anti-vaxxers-calls-covid-jab-refusal-an-almost-suicidal-act-of-denial\/\">here<\/a>; see also <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/francis-and-the-great-shipwreck\/\">Francis and the Great Shipwreck<\/a><\/em><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_50631_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_50631_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/real-christianity\/\">Real Christianity<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>is being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-eclipse-of-reason\/\">eclipsed<\/a> as the\u00a0words of Jesus are reaching fulfillment before our very eyes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: trebuchet ms, geneva, sans-serif;\">All of you will have your faith shaken, for it is written: \u2018I will strike the shepherd, <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: trebuchet ms, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>and the sheep will be dispersed.&#8217;<\/strong> (Mark 14:27)<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: trebuchet ms, geneva, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong><span class=\"text\">Before Christ&#8217;s second coming the Church must pass through a final trial <em>that will shake the faith of many<\/em> believers.<\/span>.. <span class=\"text\">The Church will enter the glory of the kingdom only through this final Passover, when she will follow her Lord in his death and Resurrection.<\/span> <\/strong><\/span><em>\u2014Catechism of the Catholic Church, <\/em>675, 677<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:19px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Passion of the Church<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The Passion of the Church has been at the heart of The Now Word from the very beginning of this apostolate. It is synonymous with the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/brace-for-impact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Great Storm<\/a>,&#8221; this <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/a-jealous-god\/\">Great Shaking<\/a><\/em> spoken of in the Catechism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/our-gethsemane\/\">Gethsemane<\/a> and the night of Christ&#8217;s betrayal, we see a mirror of the terrible factions that have recently emerged in the Body of Christ: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/on-weaponizing-the-mass\/\">radical traditionalism<\/a><\/em> that draws the sword and <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-39731\" style=\"margin: 2px 5px 2px 5px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/gethsemjesus.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"373\" height=\"248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/gethsemjesus.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/gethsemjesus-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/gethsemjesus-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/gethsemjesus-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/gethsemjesus-640x427.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/gethsemjesus-272x182.jpg 272w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 373px) 100vw, 373px\" \/>self-righteously condemns one&#8217;s perceived opponents (cf. John 18:10); <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-place-for-cowards\/\">cowardice<\/a><\/em> that flees the growing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/woke-vs-awake\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">woke<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-growing-mob\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mob<\/a> and hides in silence (cf. Matt 26:56, Mark 14:50); full-blown <em>modernism<\/em> that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/analysis\/new-pontifical-academy-for-life-book-contradicts-church-teaching-on-life-sexual-ethics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">denies and compromises<\/a> the truth (cf. Mark 14:71); and the outright betrayal by the successors of the apostles themselves:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: trebuchet ms, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>Today the Church is living with Christ through the outrages of the Passion. The sins of her members come back to her like strikes on the face\u2026 The Apostles themselves turned tail in the Garden of Olives. They abandoned Christ in His most difficult hour\u2026 Yes, there are unfaithful priests, bishops, and even cardinals who fail to observe chastity. But also, and this is also very grave, they fail to hold fast to doctrinal truth! They disorient the Christian faithful by their confusing and ambiguous language. They adulterate and falsify the Word of God, willing to twist and bend it to gain the world\u2019s approval. They are the Judas Iscariots of our time.<\/strong> \u2014Cardinal Robert Sarah,<\/span> <em><a href=\"https:\/\/catholicherald.co.uk\/as-a-bishop-it-is-my-duty-to-warn-the-west-an-interview-with-cardinal-sarah\/\">Catholic Herald<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>April 5th, 2019<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, I cannot help but repeat the prescient words of St. John Henry Newman who foresaw, with uncanny precision, the beginning of the Passion of the Church:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: trebuchet ms, geneva, sans-serif;\"><b>Satan may adopt the more alarming weapons of deceit\u2014he may hide himself\u2014he may attempt to seduce us in little things, and so to move the Church, not all at once, but by little and little from her true position. I do\u00a0<\/b><b>believe he has done much in this way in the course of the last few centuries\u2026 It is his policy to split us up and divide us, to dislodge us gradually from our rock of strength. And if there is to be a persecution, perhaps it will be then; then, perhaps, when we are all of us in all parts of Christendom so divided, and so reduced, so full of schism, so close upon heresy. When we have cast ourselves upon the world and depend for protection upon it, and have given up our independence and our strength, then [Antichrist] will burst upon us in fury as far as God allows him. <\/b>\u2014Blessed John Henry Newman, <em>Sermon IV: The Persecution of Antichrist<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Naked Christian<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>In Mark&#8217;s Gospel, there is a peculiar detail at the end of the Gethsemane narrative:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: trebuchet ms, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>Now a young man followed him wearing nothing but a linen cloth about his body. They seized him, but he left the cloth behind and ran off naked.<\/strong> (Mark 14:51-52)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It reminds me of the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/video-the-prophecy-at-rome\/\">Prophecy at Rome<\/a>&#8221; that Dr. Ralph Martin and I discussed not long ago:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: trebuchet ms, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong><em>I will lead you into the desert\u2026 I will strip you of everything that you are depending on now, so you depend just on Me. A time of darkness is coming on the world, but a time of glory is coming for My Church, a time of glory is coming for My people. I will pour out on you all the gifts of My Spirit. I will prepare you for spiritual combat; I will prepare you for a time of evangelism that the world has never seen\u2026. And when you have nothing but Me, you will have everything&#8230;<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Everything around us right now is in a state of collapse \u2014 one, so subtle, that very few can even see it.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-42005 alignright\" style=\"margin: 1px 2px 1px 2px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/collapseamerica.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"357\" height=\"268\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/collapseamerica.jpg 1199w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/collapseamerica-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/collapseamerica-1024x769.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/collapseamerica-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/collapseamerica-640x480.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 357px) 100vw, 357px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: trebuchet ms, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>\u2018Civilizations collapse slowly, just slowly enough so you think it might not really happen. And just fast enough so that there\u2019s little time to maneuver.\u2019<\/strong> \u2014<em>The Plague Journal,<\/em> from the novel by Michael D. O\u2019Brien, p. 160<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s hard to explain, but when I walk into a store or a public place these days, it feels as though I have entered into a dream&#8230; into a world that once was, but is no more. I have never felt more alien to this world as I do now.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: trebuchet ms, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>My eyes are dimmed with sorrow, worn out because of all my foes. Away from me, all who do evil! The LORD has heard the sound of my weeping&#8230;<\/strong> (Psalm 6:8-9)<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: trebuchet ms, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>For some reason I think you are weary. I know I am frightened and weary too. For the face of the Prince of Darkness is becoming clearer and clearer to me. It seems he does not care any more to remain \u201cthe great anonymous one,\u201d the \u201cincognito,\u201d the \u201ceveryone.\u201d He seems to have come into his own and shows himself in all his tragic reality. So few believe in his existence that he does not need to hide himself anymore!<\/strong> \u2014Catherine Doherty to Thomas Merton, <em>Compassionate Fire, The Letters of Thomas Merton and Catherine de Hueck Doherty,<\/em> p. 60, March 17th, 1962, Ave Maria Press (2009)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Indeed, all of this is a stripping of the Bride of Christ \u2014 but not to leave her naked! Rather, the Divine Goal of this Passion and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-final-trial\/\"><em>Final Trial <\/em><\/a>is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-resurrection-of-the-church\/\"><em>The Resurrection of the Church <\/em><\/a>and the clothing of the Bride in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-third-rewenal\/\">beautiful new garment<\/a> for a triumphant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/preparing-for-the-era-of-peace\/\">Era of Peace<\/a>. If you are feeling discouraged, read again <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-popes-and-a-dawning-new-age\/\"><em>The Popes and The Dawning Era <\/em><\/a>or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/dear-holy-father-he-is-coming\/\"><em>Dear Holy Father&#8230; He is Coming! <\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The great weapon of the enemy is discouragement. Sometimes I think our discouragement is because we have lowered our eyes to the temporal plane, looking to the earth and those around us to give us what only God can. This is why the Saints managed to rise above their trials and even find joy in them: because they realized that all that was passing, including their suffering, was the means of their purification and hastening to union with God.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus said, <em>&#8220;Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.&#8221;<\/em> If we are being led into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-silent-answer\/\"><em>silence <\/em><\/a>of Christ&#8217;s Passion, it is so that we will give a greater witness through a purity of heart and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countdowntothekingdom.com\/in-love-is-victory\/\">divine love<\/a>. So, what are we waiting for?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: trebuchet ms, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>&#8230;since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before Him, He endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God.<\/strong> (Heb
