O&#8217;Brien novel about a letter found in the future Era of Peace. The letter was written and then buried at the time of the collapse of civilization, a time that essentially describes our present era. This one particular line jumped off the page as I read it&#8230;<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>&#8230;there really is no place to run and hide. The time of the end is the time of no room.<\/strong> \u2014<em>Letter to the Future,\u00a0<\/em>p. 138, Ignatius Press<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It spoke to me in light of my recent reflections on the prophet Daniel&#8217;s and St. John&#8217;s vision of the &#8220;beast&#8221; (see <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-wearing-down-of-the-saints\/\">The Wearing Down of the Saints<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/when-christs-kingdom-comes\/\"><em>When Christ&#8217;s Kingdom Comes<\/em><\/a>) \u2014 a beast that is allowed to &#8220;wear down the holy ones of the Most High&#8221; (Dan 7:25) and &#8220;wage war against the holy ones <em>and conquer them<\/em>&#8221; (Rev 13:6-7). So overwhelming, totalitarian, and all-encompassing is the beast&#8217;s power that the &#8220;whole world&#8221; cries out:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>Who can compare with the beast or who can fight against it?<\/strong> (Revelation 13:4)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Indeed, seemingly just a handful of technocrats will soon have the power to force everyone to &#8220;buy and sell&#8221; through their system once digital currency and digital IDs are imposed on the global populace. Then there will truly be nowhere to run, nowhere to hide (see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-final-revolution\/\"><em>The Final Revolution<\/em><\/a>).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>Where Can You Run?<\/h5>\n<p>So many of us are growing very tired and weary as we watch a system fall into place that we feel helpless to stop. Even though we have &#8220;filled our lamps with oil&#8221; as best we can to prepare for these days, we find the increasing evil, lukewarmness, blindness, cowardice, and political correctness of both secular and church authorities exhausting. As such, not only the unwise but the <em>wise <\/em>&#8220;virgins&#8221; are becoming weary:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>The foolish ones, when taking their lamps, brought no oil with them, but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps. Since the bridegroom was long delayed, they <em>all<\/em> became drowsy and fell asleep.<\/strong> (Matthew 25:3-5)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s true \u2014 many Christians today no longer want to be confronted with the &#8220;signs of the times.&#8221; In fact, because the Bridegroom has indeed been long delayed, and prophecies of these times have been coming at us from various corners of the earth for over a century, we can start to become numb, complacent, cynical, even angry at the incessant prophets who remind us that the world is mortally sick.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-34481\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/noahfaith.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"328\" height=\"328\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/noahfaith.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/noahfaith-1536x1536.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/noahfaith-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/noahfaith-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/noahfaith-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/noahfaith-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 328px) 100vw, 328px\" \/>I think of Noah who took roughly a hundred years or less to build the ark. At first, people would have been intrigued, but after a hundred years, it was yesterday&#8217;s news. <em>And then the storm came.<\/em> That story, as well as Gethsemane, is a reminder to us to remain vigilant, even should God delay.<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_53315_1('footnote_plugin_reference_53315_1_1');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_53315_1('footnote_plugin_reference_53315_1_1');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_53315_1_1\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[1]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_53315_1_1\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">2 Peter 3:9: &#8220;The Lord does not delay his promise, as some regard \u201cdelay,\u201d but he is patient with you, not wishing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_53315_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_53315_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>It\u2019s our very sleepiness to the presence of God that renders us insensitive to evil: we don\u2019t hear God because we don\u2019t want to be disturbed, and so we remain indifferent to evil&#8230; <\/strong><strong>the disciples\u2019 sleepiness is not a problem of that one moment, rather of the whole of history, \u2018the sleepiness\u2019 is ours, of those of us who do not want to see the full force of evil and do not want to enter into his Passion<\/strong>. \u2014POPE BENEDICT XVI, Catholic News Agency, Vatican City, Apr 20, 2011, General Audience<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>To &#8220;enter His Passion&#8221; is not to become negative and depressed, spending one&#8217;s day doom-scrolling. On the contrary, it is a clarion call to enter into the battle as a protagonist. This is why Jesus told the sleepy apostles in the garden to &#8220;watch and pray.&#8221; <em>Watching<\/em> tells you who and what to <em>pray<\/em> for; for whom and what to do battle with.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>For, although we are in the flesh, we do not battle according to the flesh, for the weapons of our battle are not of flesh but are enormously powerful, capable of destroying fortresses. But where do you go? Where can one run? Just exactly <em>how<\/em> the Blessed Mother cares for and looks after her children is a mystery in the order of grace and Divine Providence. All we know is that it pleases God to give her to us: &#8220;Behold, your mother&#8221; (Jn 19:27). Nor does this promise of divine protection mean that we will not suffer, even suffer martyrdom. Rather, it implies that our spiritual welfare and salvation will be safeguarded, despite the persecutions and blows of the enemy, even the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/these-times-of-antichrist\/\">Antichrist<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, Our Lady of Fatima says that her heart will lead us to God. That&#8217;s why she continually calls us to remain faithful to the Truth, to her Son&#8217;s Church, and to prayer for the shepherds appointed over us.
