The Gospel spoke of those who are saved at the last hour, while the prophet Isaiah wrote:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.<\/strong> (Isaiah 55:6)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Isaiah&#8217;s prophecies, according to the Early Church Fathers, are essentially about a coming &#8220;Era of Peace.&#8221;<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_1');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_1');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_1\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[1]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_1\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/how-the-era-was-lost\/\"><em>How the Era was Lost<\/em><\/a><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> They not only echo the Book of Revelation&#8217;s prophecy that Jesus will reign over the nations with an &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-iron-rod\/\">iron rod<\/a>,&#8221; that is, the Divine Will,<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_2');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_2');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_2\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[2]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_2\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/the-iron-rod\/\"><em>The Iron Rod<\/em><\/a><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_2').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_2', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> but that it will be preceded and prepared for by a &#8220;time of mercy&#8221;: <em>Seek the Lord while He may be found.<\/em><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>The Time of Mercy<\/h5>\n<p>Fast forward to our times and the dramatic vision the children of Fatima saw when an angel was about to strike Earth with a flaming sword. Suddenly, the Blessed Mother appeared, stopping the angel, who then looked down upon the world and cried out three words: <em>&#8220;Penance, penance, penance!&#8221; <\/em><span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_3');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_3');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_3\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[3]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_3\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/fatima-and-the-great-shaking\/\">Fatima and the Great Shaking<\/a><\/em><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_3').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_3', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> With that, we entered into a &#8220;time of mercy,&#8221; which Jesus would later confirm to St. Faustina:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>I saw the Lord Jesus, like a king in great majesty, looking down upon our earth with great severity; but because of His Mother\u2019s intercession He prolonged the time of His mercy\u2026 &#8220;<em>I am prolonging the time of mercy for the sake of [sinners]. But woe to them if they do not recognize this time of My visitation\u2026\u00a0<\/em><em>Before the Day of Justice, I am sending the Day of Mercy\u2026&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u2014<em>Divine Mercy in My Soul<\/em>, Diary, n. 126I, 1160,<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"> 1588<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Clearly, Jesus is warning that some people will fail to recognize the grace and <em>time<\/em> they are being given to convert. Given that this message was conveyed nearly a hundred years ago, we can infer that forces were already at work in the world, spiritually and<em> significantly <\/em>blinding the unrepentant. Moreover, it&#8217;s clear that if we have entered a &#8220;time of mercy,&#8221; then that time will expire.<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_4');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_4');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_4\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[4]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_4\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/opening-wide-the-doors-of-mercy\/\"><em>Opening Wide the Doors of Mercy<\/em><\/a><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_4').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_4', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script>\u00a0But when?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>Last Call<\/h5>\n<p>It would seem a &#8220;last call&#8221; to souls began on June 24, 1981, when Our Lady started appearing to six children in the mountainous region of former Yugoslavia near the village of Medjugorje. (The <span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">Vatican has granted the apparitions there a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/medjugorje-and-hairsplitting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Nihil Obstat<\/em><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncregister.com\/news\/the-conclusions-of-the-ruini-report-on-medjugorje\">Ruini Commission<\/a>, established by Pope Benedict XVI, also concluded that the first seven apparitions were <em>&#8220;constat de supernaturalitate&#8221; <\/em>[determined to be supernatural],\u00a0though the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncregister.com\/news\/the-conclusions-of-the-ruini-report-on-medjugorje\">commission&#8217;s report<\/a> has not been officially adopted.)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-54276\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Our-Lady-Come.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"329\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Our-Lady-Come.jpeg 1400w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Our-Lady-Come-300x193.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Our-Lady-Come-1024x658.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Our-Lady-Come-768x494.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 329px) 100vw, 329px\" \/>The Blessed Virgin said to the children very early on:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><em><strong>Hasten your conversion, do not await the Sign (the Third Secret) which has been announced, for people who do not believe, it will be too late.<\/strong> \u2014The Medjugorje Messages: 1981-2013,\u00a0<\/em>n. 88, medjugorje.org; cf. <em style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Ten Secrets: The Hidden Prophecies of Medjugorje and the Path to Peace<\/em>, Dr. Thomas Petrisko (St. Andrew&#8217;s Productions), p. 33<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The &#8220;Sign&#8221;, according to the seers, will be left on Apparition Hill when the apparitions are over, and &#8220;will be beautiful, permanent, indestructible, and will remain on the hill until the end of the world.&#8221;<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_5');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_5');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_5\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[5]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_5\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">Vicka Ivankovi\u0107-Mijatovi\u0107, interview with Fr. Livio of Radio Maria, September 17, 2026<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_5').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_5', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> Mysteriously, it will also be &#8220;too late&#8221; for those &#8220;who do not believe.&#8221; Hence, in 1985, Our Lady repeated:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><em><strong>Now is the time for conversion. I have been exhorting you for the last four years. Be converted before it will be too late.<\/strong> \u2014<\/em><\/span><em style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Messages and Teachings of Mary at Medjugorje,\u00a0<\/em><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Fr. Ren\u00e9 Laurentin and Fr. Ren\u00e9 Lejeune, p. 204; Ibid.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Twenty years later, she continued this plea:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><em><strong>Today, the Lord permitted me to tell you again that you live in a time of grace. You are not conscious, little children, that God is giving you a great opportunity to convert&#8230;<\/strong> \u2014The Medjugorje Messages: 1981-2013,\u00a0<\/em>n. 195<em>, medjugorje.org;\u00a0<\/em>Ibid.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The question is <em>why<\/em> will such a miraculous sign be &#8220;too late&#8221; for some?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>The Strong Delusion<\/h5>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-34765 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/weedswheat.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"328\" height=\"246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/weedswheat.jpg 1800w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/weedswheat-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/weedswheat-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/weedswheat-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/weedswheat-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 328px) 100vw, 328px\" \/>According to Jesus, at the end of the age, there will be a great sifting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off. When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well\u2026.His slaves said to [the Master], \u2018Do you want us to go and pull them up?\u2019 He replied, \u2018No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them. Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, \u201cFirst collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn.\u201d<\/strong> (Matt 13:24-30)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Jesus explained to His Apostles that the one who sowed the weeds was Satan, \u201cthe father of lies.\u201d<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_6');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_6');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_6\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[6]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_6\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf. John 8:44<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_6').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_6', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\">\u2026the field is the world, the good seed the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age\u2026<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a rather sobering Scripture. Because while our generation has been falsely led to believe that everyone goes to Heaven and that Hell is empty, if it exists at all,<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_7');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_7');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_7\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[7]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_7\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">cf.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.markmallett.com\/blog\/hell-is-for-real\/\"><em>Hell is For Real<\/em><\/a><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_7').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_7', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> Jesus speaks of those who become the &#8220;children of the evil one.&#8221; That&#8217;s a far cry from the religious indifferentism of our times. So, while it is true that God &#8220;wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth,&#8221;<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_8');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_8');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_8\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[8]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_8\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">1 Timothy 2:4<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_8').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_8', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> it&#8217;s clear not everyone will be. Moreover, at the end of this age, we are told that God will sift these souls from among the righteous. How?<\/p>\n<p>St. Paul warned that, at the time of a coming Antichrist, the &#8220;lawless one&#8221;, God is going to hand over &#8220;those who are perishing because <em>they have not accepted the love of truth<\/em> so that they may be saved.&#8221;<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_9');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_54674_1('footnote_plugin_reference_54674_1_9');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_9\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[9]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_9\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">2 Thess 2:10<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_54674_1_9').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_54674_1_9', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>Therefore, God is sending them a deceiving power so that they may believe the lie, that all who have not believed the truth but have approved wrongdoing may be condemned.<\/strong> (2 Thess 2:11-12)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The RSV translation says God is sending a &#8220;strong delusion,&#8221; while the Douay-Rheims gives perhaps the clearest idea of this deceiving power: an <em>&#8220;operation of error, to believe lying.&#8221;<\/em> People\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">will accept\u00a0<em>lies\u00a0<\/em>as<\/span><em>\u00a0truth<\/em>, to the point that they even forgo their salvation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here are three examples of how this deceiving power is clearly at work in the world&#8230;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">I. The Popes Have Already Declared It!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Pope after pope, beginning particularly with Leo XIII, have explicitly referenced 2 Thessalonians 2 and this passage on the strong delusion.\u00a0Pope Leo XIII stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>\u2026he who resists the truth through malice and turns away from it, sins most grievously against the Holy Ghost. In our days this sin has become so frequent that those dark times seem to have come which were foretold by St. Paul, in which men, blinded by the just judgment of God, should take falsehood for truth, and should believe in \u201cthe prince of this world,\u201d who is a liar and the father thereof, as a teacher of truth: \u201cGod shall send them the operation of error, to believe lying\u00a0<\/strong>(2 Thess. ii., 10)<strong>. Is this perhaps underscored in a recent viral video in which an American priest experienced the weight of Christ&#8217;s suffering during the Consecration? In the video below, Fr. Brent Bowman was left sobbing, unable to lift the chalice.
