The Sea of Disquiet

WHY does the world remain in pain? Because it is the human, not Divine Will, that continues to govern mankind’s affairs. On a personal level, when we assert our human will over the Divine, the heart loses its equilibrium and plunges into disorder and unrest—even in the smallest assertion over God’s will (for just one flat note can make an otherwise perfectly tuned symphony sound disagreeable). The Divine Will is the anchor of the human heart, but when untethered, the soul is carried away upon the currents of sadness into a sea of disquiet.

THE INCREDIBLE NOBILITY

When God created the universe and all it contains, He spoke a single and eternal word: Fiat “let it be done.” This Fiat was the expression of God’s Will, and thus, this “Divine Will” carries within it the very life and power of the Creator himself. For no reason other than a boundless love and supreme generosity, God wanted to share this creative power and love with another “made in his image and likeness.” [1]Gen 1:26 And so, He created Adam and gave him three gifts by which he could ascend to God, and the Trinity could descend to him: the intellect, memory, and will. Jesus said to Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta that “Our love in creating man was so great that only when We communicated Our likeness to him, only then was Our love content.” [2]The Gift of Living in the Divine Will in the Writings of Luisa Piccarreta, Rev. Joseph Iannuzzi, (Kindle Locations 968-969), Kindle Edition

…you have made [man] little less than a god, crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him rule over the works of your hands, put all things at his feet… (Psalm 8:6-8)

With each breath, thought, word and action, Adam administered the very light and life of God throughout the universe such that Adam was rightly called the “king of creation.” By remaining united to the Divine Will, writes theologian Rev. Joseph Iannuzzi, “God’s love resounded and abided in him and, through him, in creation.”[3]Rev. Joseph Iannuzzi, The Gift of Living in the Divine Will in the Writings of Luisa Piccarreta (Kindle Edition, Locations 928-930); with Ecclessial approval Jesus explains to Luisa:

I endowed man with a will, an intellect and a memory. In his will shone My heavenly Father who… vested it with his own power, sanctity, power and nobility, while sustaining the free exchange of all the currents [of love] between the divine and human will, so that it might be enriched with the ever-increasing treasures of My divinity. The Gift of Living in the Divine Will in the Writings of Luisa Piccarreta, Rev. Joseph Iannuzzi, (Kindle Locations 946-949), Kindle Edition; with Ecclesiastical Approbation

In other words, by remaining united to God through the faculty of his will, God gave all of humanity the potential to “live and move and have our being” [4]Acts 17:28 within His creative and eternal power.

IN THE BEGINNING

But when Adam and Eve were put to a test in order to prove their love and thus expand their souls to receive even more treasures of the Divinity… they rebelled. Suddenly, the dominion Adam enjoyed over all of creation was forfeited; the beautiful “day” of the Divine Will operating in his soul gave way to the “night” of the human will, now left to itself. Into this night entered the phantoms of fear, anxiety, and loneliness which in turn produced lust, anger, greed, and all manner of dysfunction. Adam and Eve were exiled into a Sea of Disquiet—where much of the human race continues adrift to this hour. Yes, today’s headlines are essentially a “parable” of the human will reaching its eschatological pinnacle of rebellion, and therefore, are also the requiem of this age. The Antichrist is essentially the incarnation of the human will reigning completely without God…

…the one doomed to perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god and object of worship, so as to seat himself in the temple of God, claiming that he is a god… (2 Thess 2:3-4)

On the other hand, Jesus was the Incarnation of the Divine Will. Through and in Him, the human and Divine wills were reunited again making him the “new Adam.”[5]The “hypostatic union”; cf. 1 Cor 15:22 And thus, by grace through faith,[6]Eph 2:8 we can be reconciled again to the Father, and through the power of the Holy Spirit we can conquer our wounded human will that is so inclined to sin. [7]ie. concupiscence

But now, our amazing God wants to do more; He wants to give back to humanity what Adam first had (and what Jesus has): a single united will such that redeemed man may not just conform to, but operate in the “eternal mode” of the Divine Will. This Gift of living in the Divine Will is what will restore man’s true sonship and thus his rights over all of creation, placing it again under the dominion of the Kingdom of the Divine Will. This coming of the Kingdom “on earth as it is in heaven” is what must take place before the end of time.

For creation awaits with eager expectation the revelation of the children of God… Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power. (Romans 8:19; 1 Cor 15:24)

That is the remarkable Gift being offered to you and I, at the same time that the spirit of Antichrist (the “anti-will”) spreads throughout the world. So, before we can receive so great a Gift, we must first recognize within ourselves the great evil it is to do our own will.

THE SEA OF DISQUIET

At one point in the sublime teachings of Our Lady to Luisa, she says:

Child most dear to Me, listen to your Mama; place your hand upon your heart and tell Me your secrets: how many times have you been unhappy, tortured, embittered, because you have done your will? Know that you have cast the Divine Will out, and have fallen into the maze of evils. The Divine Will wanted to render you pure and holy, happy and beautiful of an enchanting beauty; and you, by doing your own will, have waged war against It, and, in sorrow, you have cast It out of Its dear dwelling, which is your soul. The Virgin Mary in the Kingdom of the Divine Will, Day 2, p. 6; benedictinesofthedivinewill.org

Do this with me now, dear reader, as Our Mother speaks to us at this moment:

Place your hand upon your heart, and observe how many voids of love are in it. Now reflect [on what you observe]: That secret self-esteem; disturbance at the slightest adversity; those tiny attachments you feel to things and to people; tardiness in doing good; the restlessness you feel when things do not go your way — all of these are equivalent to many voids of love in you heart. These are voids which, like little fevers, zap you of the strength and [holy ] desire that one must have if they are to be filled with the Divine Will. Oh, if only you were to fill these voids with love, you too would feel the refreshing and conquering virtue in your sacrifices. My child, lend me your hand and follow me…The Blessed Virgin Mary in the Kingdom of the Divine Will, Rev. Joseph Iannuzzi; Meditation 1, p. 248

Over and over again, Our Lady urges us never to do a single thing in our own will. “The human will is what disturbs the soul,” she says, “and endangers God’s most
beautiful works, even the holiest things.”
[8]The Blessed Virgin Mary in the Kingdom of the Divine Will, Rev. Joseph Iannuzzi; Day 9, p. 124 Of course, on this Sea of Disquiet, we are subject to so many storms from both within and without. But that’s why Jesus has given us Mary—or Maria—which means “sea” (from mare).  She, who is full of grace, is a Sea of Grace where the Kingdom of the Divine Will reigns in its fullness. In the school of her heart and the furnace of her blessed womb, there we find refuge by constantly having recourse to her, our Mother.

Therefore, dearest child of mine, if a gust of wind seeks to render you inconstant, immerse yourself in the sea of the Divine Will and come and hide in the womb of your mother so that I may defend you from the winds of the human will. The Blessed Virgin Mary in the Kingdom of the Divine Will, Rev. Joseph Iannuzzi; Day 9, p. 124

Thus will begin, and quite quickly, the formation of the Kingdom of the Divine Will in your soul—and the inauguration into true sonship and the Union of unions that has been reserved for these, the last times of the Church and the world.
