Come Out of the Closet!

The other day, I seemed to hear the Lord speak with authority and love:

Come out of the closet!

Common words these are… but in our generation, they refer not really to a coming out, but to a going into—into sin.

Yes, come out of the closet, but not into sin, not into deeper darkness. Come, rather, into the Light! Bring to me the wound of your heart that now you hide in shame. Expose to me your poverty, your brokeness, your weakness… and I will be your strength and your healing.

Jesus’s love was so strong, I couldn’t help but weep. I sensed Him saying this to all who are hiding in darkness… hiding a shameful secret of their past or present. He is saying, if you keep it in the darkness, then you risk keeping it for all eternity. But if you bring it into the Light of His Mercy, He will wash away any sin, and begin to heal your wounded heart.

Take no part in the fruitless works of darkness; rather expose them… (Eph 5:13)

If we say, "We have fellowship with him," while we continue to walk in darkness, we lie and do not act in truth. But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of his Son Jesus cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:6-7)

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

The light will be among you only a little while. Walk while you have the light, so that darkness may not overcome you. (John 12:35)
