With news of the Vatican offering to host peace negotiations between Russia and the Ukraine, new speculations have arisen regarding an alleged “prophecy” from Garabandal, Spain. As such, people are reaching out to me for comment…
The Pope Will Go to Moscow?
It is said that one of the seers of the alleged apparitions there, Conchita Gonzalez, claimed:
The pope will go to Moscow. As soon as he returns to the Vatican, hostilities will break out in different parts of Europe.
As author Ted Flynn details in his book Garabandal: The Warning and Great Miracle (2023), the “sole source” of this supposed prophecy came from Austrian author Albrecht Weber in his 1993 book Garabandal — Der Zeigefinger Gottes (Garabandal — The Finger of God). According to Weber, Conchita relayed the above to him in her house on November 14, 1965. Flynn writes that Weber apparently confirmed Conchita’s statement several times, and at least once to the late Barry Hanratty, editor of the Garabandal Journal. However, states Flynn:
…the quote does not appear anywhere in [the revised edition (2000) of] Mr. Weber’s book…. People in possession of the second edition of the book, who have personally gone through the entire work seven times have never found the word “Moscow” in the book.
An unanswerable question remains: Why would Mr. Weber withhold such a significant piece of information from his own publication, and also with a revision of his book in 2000? This remains a puzzle, and actually quite bizarre. Speculation could be a draft of the book was circulated to one of the visionaries, and they asked that this be withheld. However, this is unlikely. —Garabandal: The Warning and Great Miracle, p. 134-135
When Communism Returns
Flynn notes that Weber did quote Conchita in this exchange:
Weber: When should we expect the Warning?
Conchita: When Communism comes again everything will happen.
Weber: What do you mean by comes again?
Conchita: Yes, when it newly comes again.
Weber: Does that mean that Communism will go away before that?
Conchita: “I don’t know,” she said in reply, “the Blessed Virgin simply said ‘when Communism comes again’.” —from Garabandal – Der Zeigefinger Gottes, Albrecht Weber
What is significant is that Conchita’s words here were long before the Berlin Wall fell and the U.S.S.R dissolved. Communism was still very much a threat to global peace. While the “Cold War” eventually ended between the U.S.S.R. and the West for a time (that time is now clearly over with the Ukraine conflict), we can see that Communism is indeed returning on a global scale, and this time through the West. As Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen warned in one of his famous telecasts:
Communism, then, is coming back again on the Western world, because something died in the Western world—namely, the strong faith of men in the God that made them. —“Communism in America”, cf. youtube.com
Said Cardinal Robert Sarah over a half century later:
The spiritual crisis involves the entire world. But its source is in Europe. People in the West are guilty of rejecting God… The spiritual collapse thus has a very Western character. —Cardinal Robert Sarah, Catholic Herald, April 5th, 2019
Pope Benedict XVI compared this collapse to that of the Roman Empire, warning of a growing “dictatorship of relativism” that rejects moral absolutes and the natural law:[1]“…a dictatorship of relativism that recognizes nothing as definite, and which leaves as the ultimate measure only one’s ego and desires. Having a clear faith, according to the credo of the Church, is often labeled as fundamentalism. Yet, relativism, that is, letting oneself be tossed and ‘swept along by every wind of teaching’, appears the sole attitude acceptable to today’s standards.” —Cardinal Ratzinger (POPE BENEDICT XVI) pre-conclave Homily, April 18th, 2005
Only if there is such a consensus on the essentials can constitutions and law function. This fundamental consensus derived from the Christian heritage is at risk… In reality, this makes reason blind to what is essential. To resist this eclipse of reason and to preserve its capacity for seeing the essential, for seeing God and man, for seeing what is good and what is true, is the common interest that must unite all people of good will. The very future of the world is at stake. —POPE BENEDICT XVI, Address to the Roman Curia, December 20th, 2010; catholicherald.co.uk
Thus, he warned in a letter to the bishops of the world that “God is disappearing from the human horizon” and that “the faith is in danger of dying out like a flame which no longer has fuel”[2]Letter of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to All the Bishops of the World, March 10, 2009 — or as Pope Leo XIV put it, “not only… non-believers but also… many baptized Christians [are] living, at this level, in a state of practical atheism.”[3]May 9, 2025, homily with Cardinal Electors
Neo-Communism — With a Green Hat
As I have outlined in numerous articles (see Related Reading at the bottom), the instrument of this new global scourge is the United Nations and their affiliate agencies, such as the World Health Organization and the World Economic Forum. The mechanisms for implementing their neo-communistic ideals — a blend of socialism and capitalism — are “climate change” ideology (eg. “the Green New Deal”) and “global pandemics.” Climate change is the lever used to control the redistribution of wealth between nations, and soon, to monitor what individuals buy and sell; and the instrument of (man-made) pandemics will control people’s movement and basic freedoms through digital ID’s and “vaccine passports”.[4]cf. The Final Revolution It is brilliant — and diabolical. It is the fulfillment of Our Lady’s unheeded warnings in 1917 at Fatima, just weeks before Communism would be born in the October Revolution in Moscow.
God… is about to punish the world for its crimes, by means of war, famine, and persecutions of the Church and of the Holy Father. To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart, and the Communion of reparation on the First Saturdays. If my requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace; if not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred; the Holy Father will have much to suffer; various nations will be annihilated. In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, and she shall be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the world. —Message of Fatima, vatican.va
On March 25, 2022, Pope Francis, in union with the bishops of the world, consecrated Russia to the Immaculate Heart. These words appeared in the official text of the prayer: “Therefore, Mother of God and our Mother, to your Immaculate Heart we solemnly entrust and consecrate ourselves, the Church and all humanity, especially Russia and Ukraine.” [5]cf. The Act of Consecration Prayer
If Heaven accepted this consecration, requested some 105 years prior, then it seems that the latter part of Our Lady’s prophecy is being fulfilled. As Sr. Lucia herself relayed in a letter to the Holy Father, dated May 12, 1982:
The third part of the secret refers to Our Lady’s words: ‘If not [Russia] will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred; the Holy Father will have much to suffer; various nations will be annihilated’ (13-VII-1917).
The third part of the secret is a symbolic revelation, referring to this part of the Message, conditioned by whether we accept or not what the Message itself asks of us: ‘If my requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace; if not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, etc.’.
Since we did not heed this appeal of the Message, we see that it has been fulfilled, Russia has invaded the world with her errors. And if we have not yet seen the complete fulfilment of the final part of this prophecy, we are going towards it little by little with great strides. If we do not reject the path of sin, hatred, revenge, injustice, violations of the rights of the human person, immorality and violence, etc. —The Message of Fatima, vatican.va
The Essentials
Whether or not this current Pope or any pope will visit Moscow as per Weber’s original claims remains to be seen, much less whether it will trigger certain events as Conchita alleged. Anything is possible given the dangerous evolving tensions around the globe.
Still, while not ignoring the “signs of the times”, these discussions should remain on the periphery of what is most essential. In the messages given at Medjugorje (with the Vatican’s Nihil Obstat), Our Lady urged us to constant “prayer of the heart,” to monthly Confession, daily meditation on the Word of God, fasting, and frequent reception of the Eucharist. These exhortations seemed to find their echo again this past week in an alleged message to Pedro Regis of Brazil:
Turn away from the world and live turned towards the things of Heaven. Confession, Eucharist, Sacred Scripture, Holy Rosary, fidelity to the Church of My Jesus and consecration to My Immaculate Heart — behold the weapons I offer you for the great combat. —May 17, 2025, cf. here
These calls to conversion are, of course, nothing less than what Mother Church has already taught us in her Public Revelation, and we would be wise to obey. For it is precisely disobedience and discord that are now leading humanity “with great strides” toward the heart of the Great Storm on a timeframe known only to God.
