Climate Confusion

THE Catechism states that “Christ endowed the Church’s shepherds with the charism of infallibility in matters of faith and morals.” [1]cf. CCC, n. 890 However, when it comes to matters of science, politics, economics, etc., the Church generally steps aside, limiting herself to being a guiding voice in terms of ethics and morality as pertains to the development and dignity of the person and stewardship of the earth.

…the Church has no particular expertise in science… the Church has got no mandate from the Lord to pronounce on scientific matters. We believe in the autonomy of science. —Cardinal Pell, Religious News Service, July 17th, 2015; relgionnews.com; Note: Pell is awaiting an appeal hearing as of this writing for a conviction that increasingly appears to be a possible miscarriage of justice.

And yet, the Vatican has increasingly become outspoken on the issue of man-made “global warming” — as if it is now a scientific fact and settled matter (“global warming” is a term that hardly anyone but the Vatican uses anymore; “climate change” became the new coin word after fraudulent science and tampering with statistics placed “global warming” prognostications in serious doubt.) Indeed, studies continue to emerge throwing the notion of man-made global warming and its accompanying computer models into serious doubt. Take for instance a recent peer-reviewed study that found climate models to have exaggerated global warming by as much as 45%. [2]cf. Lewis and Curry

So why has the Pope so firmly stood behind “global warming” alarmism? Indeed, just today the Holy Father became a veritable spokesman for the United Nations, not only echoing their increasingly questionable warnings but even promoting their carbon tax initiative:

Dear friends, time is running out! …A carbon pricing policy is essential if humanity wants to use the resources of creation wisely… the effects on the climate will be catastrophic if we exceed the 1.5ºC threshold outlined in the Paris Agreement goals. —POPE FRANCIS, June 14th, 2019; Brietbart.com

He goes on to say:

In the face of a climatic emergency, we must take appropriate measures, in order to avoid committing a grave injustice towards the poor and future generations. —Ibid.

The Pontifical Academy of Sciences, and thus Francis, are basing their conclusions off of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is not a scientific body. Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, the Bishop-Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy stated:

There is now a growing consensus that human activities are having a discernible effect on the Earth’s climate (IPCC, 1996). An enormous amount of effort has gone into the scientific research that forms the basis for this judgment. —cf. Catholic.org

That’s troubling since the IPCC has been discredited on several occasions. Dr. Frederick Seitz, a world-famous physicist and former president of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, criticized the 1996 IPCC report that used selective data and doctored graphs: “I have never witnessed a more disturbing corruption of the peer review process than events that led to this IPCC report,” he lamented.[3]cf. Forbes.com In 2007, the IPCC had to correct a report that exaggerated the pace of melt of the Himalayan glaciers and that wrongly claimed they could all vanish by 2035.[4]cf. Reuters.comThe IPCC was recently caught again exaggerating global warming data in a report rushed through in order to influence The Paris Agreement. That report fudged data in order to suggest no ‘pause‘ in global warming has occurred since the turn of this millennium.[5]cf. nypost.com; and January 22nd, 2017, investors.com; from study: nature.com

PAINFUL IRONIES

The irony in all of this is deeply troubling. For one, a carbon tax actually punishes the poor, hampers youth struggling with minimum wage jobs, and hurts rural commuters, truckers and cab drivers, while doing nothing to the climate. Here, in my province of Saskatchewan, Canada, a carbon tax was imposed two months ago. Gasoline rose 20 cents more per litre by the next morning, adding for many us hundreds of dollars per month in increased costs while doing absolutely nothing for the apparent climate apocalypse. In fact, carbon taxes and subsequent fuel hikes resulted in the “Yellow Vest” riots that erupted in France this year. [6]cf. cnbc.com

As co-founder of the environmental group Greenpeace retorts to climate change hype:

We do not have any scientific proof that we are the cause of the global warming that has occurred in the last 200 years…The alarmism is driving us through scare tactics to adopt energy policies that are going to create a huge amount of energy poverty among the poor people. It’s not good for people and it’s not good for the environment…In a warmer world we can produce more food. —Dr. Patrick Moore, Fox Business News with Stewart Varney, January 2011; Forbes.com

That’s a fact. More CO2, means more warmth, means more conducive growing conditions. The most destabilizing and troubling times for humanity, from a climate standpoint, have occurred when the earth has entered cooling periods known as little “ice ages.” Swedish climate expert, Dr. Fred Goldberg, not only notes how the earth has been much warmer, long before man produced carbon emissions, but submits that we could enter into another ice age “any time”:

If we go down to the last 4000 to 3500 years in the Bronze Age period, it was three degrees warmer than today on the northern hemisphere at least… we had a new peak in high temperature in 2002 after a solar activity maximum, now the temperature is going down again. So we are heading into a cooling period. —April 22nd, 2010; en.people.cn

But perhaps the most difficult aspect of the Vatican’s unequivocal support for “climate change” is that it appears remarkably naive of the clear and stated agenda of the United Nations: using “global warming” to redistribute wealth, not alter the climate. As an official on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) quite candidly admitted:

…one has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy.  Instead, climate change policy is about how we redistribute de facto the world’s wealth… —Ottmar Edenhofer, dailysignal.com, November 19th, 2011

This is Communism in a lab suit. The Chief Climate Change official of the United Nations, Christine Figueres, stated:

This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years—since the industrial revolution. —November 30th, 2015; unric.org

Nonetheless, the Vatican’s position is that…

…a number of scientific studies indicate that most global warming in recent decades is due to the great concentration of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxides and others) released mainly as a result of human activity… The same mindset which stands in the way of making radical decisions to reverse the trend of global warming also stands in the way of achieving the goal of eliminating poverty.Laudato si’, n. 23, 175

THE REAL CRISES

There are so many contradictions in all of this that it is a bit mind-boggling. It leaves one wondering who on earth is advising Pope Francis on this issue, and are they themselves mislead—or are they misleading the Holy Father? I am reminded again of Massimo Franco, one of the leading “Vaticanists” and a correspondent for the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, who stated:

Cardinal Gerhard Müller, the former Guardian of the Faith, a German cardinal… said in a recent interview that the Pope is surrounded by spies, who tend not to tell him the truth, but what the Pope wants to hear. —Inside the Vatican, March 2018, p. 15

If the Pope has been led to believe that the planet is about to crater through man-made climate change as a result of immoral practices, then it is no surprise that he is raising his voice. The problem is that the “science” that promotes this is so wrought with manipulation and fraud, as I have pointed out in two articles now (see below), that the Church may be doing far more harm than good at this point. In fact, it’s not global warming but global poisoning that is the most egregious and immediate crisis facing mankind: the poisoning of the oceans, the poisoning of agricultural practices and food, the poisoning of so much of what we clean, wear, and consume (see The Great Poisoning).

In fact, has anyone made the Pope aware of the chemical experiments taking place in the atmosphere in order to combat so-called global warming? As far back as 1978, in a clearly documented U.S. Congressional report, it is admitted that several national governments, agencies and universities have been actively engaged in attempting to modify climate as both a weapon and means of changing weather patterns. [7]cf. PDF of report: geoengineeringwatch.org One of the means of doing this has been by spraying aerosols into the atmosphere, [8]cf. “China’s ‘weather modification’ works like magic”, theguardian.com what are known as chemical trails or “chem-trails.” These are to be differentiated from the trails that normally exhaust from jet engines. Rather, chem-trails can linger in the sky for hours, blocking sunlight, dispersing or generating cloud cover, [9]cf. Russian’s clear sky for V-Day, see slate.com and worse, raining toxins and heavy metals down upon an unsuspecting public. Heavy metals, of course, are linked to a myriad of health complications and diseases when they accumulate in the body. Public awareness campaigns around the globe are beginning to bring this dangerous human experiment to light. [10]eg. chemtrailsprojectuk.com and chemtrails911.com

Rather than expound further on what I’ve already written, there are three articles I wish to point out to the reader who wishes to go deeper into these subjects:

• To read about the real history behind “global warming” and the ideology driving it, see Climate Change and the Strong Delusion

• Read how both scientists and prophecy speak of global coolingThe Winter of Our Chastisement

• Read about the incredible damage man is truly doing to the planet and each other: The Great Poisoning

It is troubling to see the Vatican throwing its support behind an agenda that is, at best, questionable. All the more reason that we ought to pray very hard for our shepherds, and particularly Pope Francis—and, to follow his advisement on these very issues:

There are certain environmental issues where it is not easy to achieve a broad consensus. Here I would state once more that the Church does not presume to settle scientific questions or to replace politics. But I am concerned to encourage an honest and open debate so that particular interests or ideologies will not prejudice the common good.Laudato si’n. 188

In that regard, this article today is to continue an honest and open debate precisely so that “interests and ideologies” contrary to the Gospel do not prevail. While I never thought I would agree much with Greenpeace, I think Dr. Patrick Moore has exposed current climate science for what it is: an ideological battlefront.

Climate change has become a powerful political force for many reasons. First, it is universal; we are told everything on Earth is threatened. Second, it invokes the two most powerful human motivators: fear and guilt… Third, there is a powerful convergence of interests among key elites that support the climate “narrative.” Environmentalists spread fear and raise donations; politicians appear to be saving the Earth from doom; the media has a field day with sensation and conflict; science institutions raise billions in grants, create whole new departments, and stoke a feeding frenzy of scary scenarios; business wants to look green, and get huge public subsidies for projects that would otherwise be economic losers, such as wind farms and solar arrays. Fourth, the Left sees climate change as a perfect means to redistribute wealth from industrial countries to the developing world and the UN bureaucracy. —Dr. Patrick Moore, P.h.d., co-founder of Greenpeace; “Why I am a Climate Change Skeptic”, March 20th, 2015; new.hearttland.org
