How Terrible Is the Gospel?

First published September 13, 2006…

THIS word was impressed upon me yesterday afternoon, a word bursting with passion and grief:

Why are you rejecting Me, My people? What is so terrible about the Gospel — the Good News — which I bring you?

I came into the world to forgive your sins, that you may hear the words, “Your sins are forgiven.” How terrible is this?

I have sent My apostles among you to preach the Good News. What is the Good News? That I have died to take away yours sins, thrusting open for you,  Paradise for all eternity. How does this offend you, My beloved?

I have left you My commandment. What is this terrible commandment which I have imposed upon you? What is this central tenet of your faith, this axiom of the Church, this burden which I demand of you?

“Love your neighbour as yourself.”

Is this wickedness, My people? Is this evil? Is this why you reject Me? Have I imposed something upon this world which will choke its freedom and destroy its dignity?

Is it beyond reason that I have commanded you to lay down your lives for one another — that I would ask you to feed the hungry, to shelter the poor, to visit the sick and lonely, to minister to those imprisoned! Have I asked this for your benefit or for your harm? It is there for all to see, nothing is hidden — it is written in black and white: the Gospel of love. And yet you believe lies!

I have sent among you My Church. I have built it on the sure foundation stone of Love. Why do you reject My Church, which is My Body? What does my Church speak that so offends your senses? Is it the command not to murder? Do you believe murder to be good? Is it to not commit adultery? Is divorce healthy and life-giving? Is it the command to not covet your neighbour’s possessions? Or do you approve of the greed which has corroded your society and left so many hungry?

What is it my beloved people that escapes you? You indulge in every impurity and reap the harvest of heartbreak, disease, depression and loneliness. Can you not see by your own fruits what is true and what is false or what is truth and what is falsehood? Judge a tree by its fruits. Have I not given you a mind to discern what is evil and what is good?

My commandments bring life. O how blind you are! How hard of heart! You see before your very eyes the fruit of the anti-gospel preached by the false prophets of the adversary. All around is the fruit of this false gospel which you embrace. How much death must you witness in your news? How many killings of the unborn, the elderly, the innocent, the helpless, the poor, the war victims — how much blood must flow through your civilizations before your pride is broken and you turn to Me? How much violence must possess your youth, how many drug addictions, family breakups, hatreds, divisions, arguments, and strife of all kind must you taste and see before you recognize the true and tested Gospel of My Word?

What shall I do? Whom shall I send? Would you believe if I sent My very Mother to you? Would you believe if the sun were to spin, the angels to appear, and the souls of purgatory to cry out in voices you can hear?  What is left for Heaven to do?

Thus, I am sending you a Storm. I am sending you a whirlwind, which will stir your senses, and awaken your souls. Pay attention! It comes! It will not delay. Do I not count each and every soul that drops forever into the fires of Hell, eternally separated from Me? Do you not think that I weep tears, that if it were possible, would drown its very flames? How long can I endure the destruction of My little ones?

My people. My people! How terrible it is that you will not hear the Gospel! How terrible it is for this generation that it will not listen. How terrible indeed is the Good News — when it is refused — and thus, changed from a ploughshare into a sword.

My people… come back to Me!

Then the LORD answered me and said:
Write down the vision;
Make it plain upon tablets,
so that the one who reads it may run.
For the vision is a witness for the appointed time,
a testimony to the end; it will not disappoint.
If it delays, wait for it,
it will surely come, it will not be late.
(Habbakuk 3:2-3)
