America — The Tipping Point?

The mid-term elections in the United States may have consequences that reach far beyond its borders. In fact, they may well signal the final stage of the West’s collapse…

The Agitators

Central to the recent elections is the controversial billionaire and President, Donald J. Trump. As I wrote in my series The Agitators, the U.S. President and the Pope (Francis at the time) — whatever one may think of them — represent two figures pivotal to the future.

I noted then that, ‘With Trump, his unorthodox style and verbal provocations [that have frankly been beneath the dignity of his office] have exposed those with Marxist and socialist agendas; they have come out into the open, their cause no longer in the darkness. Likewise, Francis’ unorthodox and Jesuit style of creating a “mess” exposed the “wolves in sheep’s clothing” eager to “update” Church teaching; they have come out into the open, their intent clear, their boldness growing.'[1]The Agitators, Part II Of course, Leo XIV is now Pope — though little has been done to end the confusing and, at times, mixed messaging from the Vatican.

In a word, the offices of the President and the Pope are in disarray.

Filling the Vacuum

Tragically, the subsequent vacuum in moral authority is rapidly being filled with extremists and apostates. For not only did Republicans lose the midterm vote, but openly socialist/communist candidates were elected in their place — an extraordinary development, given that America was once at the forefront of the Cold War, fighting against Communism and the Soviet Union.

In the Catholic Church, progressive agendas continue to gain traction as the teaching and evangelizing mission given by Christ (Matt 28:19-20) has seemingly been all but abandoned. This, while pews in many places are emptying and churches closing. Faith in the West is flickering out like a flame.[2]cf. The Suicide of the West

Here again, I find myself repeating the prophetic warning of the late American Archbishop, Blessed Fulton Sheen, that now seems aimed at the current state of America:

Communism, then, is coming back again on the Western world, because something died in the Western world — namely,  the strong faith of men in the God that made them. —“Communism in America”, cf. youtube.com

The Collapse of Christendom

There’s a bigger picture worth paying close attention to. According to the Early Church Fathers, the collapse of the West, that is, the Roman Empire, which represented Christendom, will usher in the Antichrist after a revolution against it.

This revolt or falling off is generally understood, by the ancient Fathers, of a revolt from the Roman empire, which was first to be destroyed, before the coming of Antichrist. It may, perhaps, be understood also of a revolt of many nations from the Catholic Church which has, in part, happened already, by the means of Mahomet, Luther, etc. and it may be supposed, will be more general in the days of the Antichrist. —footnote on 2 Thess 2:3, Douay-Rheims Holy Bible, Baronius Press Limited, 2003; p. 235

The Roman Empire (Christendom) has two basic elements: the spiritual, represented by the Catholic Church and headed by the Pope; and the political, represented by the once-Christian Western nations. Arguably, America is the last political stronghold of Christianity due to its economic and military power holding back the “barbarians.” On the other hand, Benedict XVI said that the Pope, the rock of Peter, is also a bulwark against a flood of iniquity:

Abraham, the father of faith, is by his faith the rock that holds back chaos, the onrushing primordial flood of destruction, and thus sustains creation. Simon, the first to confess Jesus as the Christ… now becomes by virtue of his Abrahamic faith, which is renewed in Christ, the rock that stands against the impure tide of unbelief and its destruction of man. —POPE BENEDICT XVI (Cardinal Ratzinger), Called to Communion, Understanding the Church Today, Adrian Walker, Tr., p. 55-56

So, what has changed?

The Collapse of Credibility

In short, Christendom’s credibility is in chaos.

Christianity is no longer relevant in Europe, as Islam is quickly supplanting the faith there. In America, the “conservative right” has become conflated with Evangelical fundamentalism that often represents a messaging that is incompatible with Christianity — such as the so-called “prosperity gospel”; a constant war footing to defend “national interests”; so-called Christian “influencers” who use their bodies and Bibles to peddle themselves; and, if we are honest, an unfettered support of Trump that failed to call him to greater accountability and higher standards of conduct. In a word, Trump and the “religious right” were conflated, violating at times a critical distinction needed between Religion and Politics. (Was the recent vote against the Republicans, in part, a vote against a hollow, if not hypocritical, form of Christianity?)

As for the Church, cultural Catholicism in the West, barely distinguishable from secularism, has hardly turned heads. Political correctness, wokism in Catholic institutions, and the emasculation of the clergy have all but neutered the powerful counter-witness that should be visible “like a city set on a mountain.”[3]Matthew 5:14

What has turned heads, however, are the sexual abuse scandals among clergy that have grabbed headlines for decades, seriously undermining the Church’s voice and mission.

…the priesthood suddenly seemed to be a place of shame and every priest was under suspicion… As a result the faith as such becomes unbelievable, and the Church can no longer present herself credibly as the herald of the Lord. —POPE BENEDICT XVI, Light of the World: The Pope, the Church, and the Signs of the Times (Ignatius Press), p. 25

So where are we at?

The Purification Comes

The truth is that there really is no nation left in the West to safeguard Christianity (see Removing the Restrainer). For instance, a new UN draft treaty on “crimes against humanity” could be used to fine and jail religious conservatives and anyone else who objects to gender ideology.[4]cf. c-fam.org The European Union, Mark Carney’s Canada, or a Democratic led United States would likely not oppose this. For the “culture of death” is now firmly entrenched in the West as a “value” and “right.”

But Christianity is not a political party, nation, or military power. It is the mystical Body of Christ, the kingdom of God on earth.[5]“The Catholic Church, which is the kingdom of Christ on earth, [is] destined to be spread among all men and all nations…” —POPE PIUS XI, Quas Primas, Encyclical, n. 12, Dec. 11th, 1925 Though Christianity can transform continents and even form a “civilization of love,” as it once did in Europe and beyond, it remains a kingdom that is “not of this world.”[6]cf. John 18:36 And when it does become worldly, the Church must be purified.

In a particularly lucid moment, Pope Francis said:

…worldliness is the root of evil and it can lead us to abandon our traditions and negotiate our loyalty to God who is always faithful. This… is called apostasy, which… is a form of “adultery” which takes place when we negotiate the essence of our being: loyalty to the Lord. —POPE FRANCIS from a homily; cf. aleteia.org (2013)

Hence, wrote Benedict XVI while still a Cardinal:

The Church will be reduced in its dimensions, it will be necessary to start again. However, from this test a Church would emerge that will have been strengthened by the process of simplification it experienced, by its renewed capacity to look within itself… the Church will be numerically reduced. —Cardinal Ratzinger (POPE BENEDICT XVI), God and the World, 2001; interview with Peter Seewald

Pope Paul VI could well have been speaking of the situation in the United States today when he said:

There is a great uneasiness, at this time, in the world and in the Church, and that which is in question is the faith… I sometimes read the Gospel passage of the end times and I attest that, at this time, some signs of this end are emerging… What strikes me, when I think of the Catholic world, is that within Catholicism, there seems sometimes to pre-dominate a non-Catholic way of thinking, and it can happen that tomorrow this non-Catholic thought within Catholicism, will tomorrow become the stronger. But it will never represent the thought of the Church. It is necessary that a small flock subsist, no matter how small it might be. —POPE PAUL VI, The Secret Paul VI, Jean Guitton, p. 152-153, Reference (7), p. ix.

The Tipping Point

All this suggests that the Church and the world have reached a tipping point. As Jesus allegedly said to Sulema Gomez, a credible seer from El Salvador worth discerning:

Look around you; see how everything is coming to pass. And yet, there are so many people who do not believe, who do not see that something great is about to happen. They believe that everything is normal; that life will continue as it is right now; that they have all the time in the world to live life however they please. Poor children… You do not seem to understand that everything is hanging by a thread, and when it breaks, everything will befall this poor humanity. —on August 13, 2026 and August 31, 2026

So what should we do? In the same message, Jesus gives the answer:

Do not be afraid; all things must be fulfilled. Heaven has warned you so that you will not be taken by surprise. Do not be afraid, for the Lord is good to the soul that seeks Him. He protects it, guides it, and fills it with His Love and with all the graces it needs. Praise and bless the Name of the Lord — and you will see all the wonders He has done and does for all who love Him. When these events occur, praise and bless the Name of the Lord; and you will see how you will be protected — if you believe; if you have faith when all seems lost. I love you. —August 13, 2026

There is a lot to reflect on here. By saying “all things must be fulfilled,” He confirms what the popes have been saying for over a century: the Scriptures and salvation history appear to be entering their climactic fulfillment.[7]cf. Understanding the Final Confrontation

Second, the message doesn’t gloss over that what’s about to come will surprise many, as the Scriptures themselves attest:

When people are saying, “Peace and security,” then sudden disaster comes upon them, like labor pains upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. (1 Thessalonians 5:3)

…their awakening will be brutal, for they do not know when death may take them by surprise. Death may surprise them while they are sleeping, celebrating, or enjoying themselves, and at that moment, there will be gnashing of teeth. Prepare yourselves today; tomorrow it may be too late. —Jesus to Sulema, August 13, 2026; cf. Luke 17:26-20

Finally, the Lord advises what our disposition ought to be — not anxiety but one of trust, abandonment, and praise, knowing that “He protects, guides, and fills [the soul] with… all the grace it needs,” so long as we “believe” and “have faith when all seems lost.” Yes, when all seems lost — just as it was at Christ’s tomb. For, as it says in the Catechism:

The Church will enter the glory of the kingdom only through this final Passover, when she will follow her Lord in his death and Resurrection.—Catechism of the Catholic Church, 677

So, dear reader, look around you, see for yourself what is unfolding in real time. It should be obvious that we ought to be preparing our hearts and filling our lamps[8]cf. Quickly, Fill Your Lamps! as we go through the The Great Transition — the labor pains that are birthing — not gloom and the end of the world, but glory and an Era of Peace.[9]cf. What is the Promised Peace? We have some long, difficult years ahead… but none of us knows God’s timeline. We should continue to work, live, play and above all pray in the present moment… always awake, always attentive, always close to Our Mother and Our Lord.

Do not fear what may happen tomorrow.
The same loving Father who cares for you today will
care for you tomorrow and every day.
Either He will shield you from suffering
or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it.
Be at peace then and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginings
.
