I turned the corner of the meat aisle in the grocery store. A young man in his early twenties stood there motionless, staring blankly through the glass freezer door at the boxes of hamburgers. The cheapest was about $26 for just six patties (a ridiculous price, given that our province, Alberta, is a major beef producer).
