The Millstone

Jesus said to his disciples,
“Things that cause sin will inevitably occur,
but woe to the one through whom they occur.
It would be better for him if a millstone were put around his neck
and he be thrown into the sea
than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin.”
(Monday’s Gospel, Lk 17:1-6)

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.
(Matt 5:6)

TODAY, in the name of “tolerance” and “inclusivity”, the most egregious crimes — physical, moral and spiritual — against the “little ones”, are being excused and even celebrated. I cannot remain silent. I don’t care how “negative” and “gloomy” or whatever other label people want to call me. If ever there were a time for the men of this generation, starting with our clergy, to defend the “least of the brethren”, it is now. But the silence is so overwhelming, so deep and widespread, that it reaches into the very bowels of space where one can already hear another millstone hurtling toward the earth. Continue reading

The Hard Truth — Part V

Unborn Baby at 8 Weeks                                                    Lobster

WORLD leaders call Roe vs. Wades’ overturning “horrific” and “appalling”.[1]msn.com What is horrific and appalling is that as early as 11 weeks, babies begin developing pain receptors. So when they are burned to death by saline solution or dismembered alive (never with anesthetic), they are subjected to the most brutal tortures. Abortion is barbaric. Women have been lied to. Now the truth comes into the light… and the Final Confrontation between the Culture of Life and the culture of death comes to a head…Continue reading

The Politics of Death

LORI Kalner lived through Hitler’s regime. When she heard classrooms of children beginning to sing songs of praise for Obama and his call for “Change” (listen here and here), it set off alarms and memories of the eerie years of Hitler’s transformation of Germany society. Today, we see the fruits of the “politics of Death”, echoed throughout the world by “progressive leaders” over the past five decades and now reaching their devastating pinnacle, particularly under the presidency of “Catholic” Joe Biden”, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and many other leaders throughout the Western World and beyond.Continue reading

Of China

In 2008, I sensed the Lord begin to speak about “China.” That culminated in this writing from 2011. As I read the headlines today, it seems timely to republish it tonight. It also seems to me that many of the “chess” pieces that I’ve been writing about for years are now moving into place. While the purpose of this apostolate is mainly helping readers to keep their feet on the ground, our Lord also said to “watch and pray.” And so, we continue to prayerfully watch…

The following was first published in 2011.

POPE Benedict warned before Christmas that the “eclipse of reason” in the West was putting “the very future of the world” at stake. He alluded to the collapse of the Roman Empire, drawing a parallel between it and our times (see On the Eve).

All the while, there is another power rising in our time: Communist China. While it does not presently bare the same teeth that the Soviet Union did, there is much to be concerned about the ascent of this soaring superpower.

Just Another Holy Eve?

WHEN I awoke this morning, an unexpected and bizarre cloud hung over my soul. I sensed a strong spirit of violence and death in the air all around me. As I drove into town, I took my Rosary out, and invoking the name of Jesus, prayed for God’s protection. It took me about three hours and four cups of coffee to finally figure out what I was experiencing, and why: it’s Halloween today.

No, I’m not going to delve into the the history of this strange American “holiday” or wade into the debate on whether to participate in it or not. A quick search of these topics on the Internet will provide ample reading in between ghouls arriving at your door, threatening tricks in lieu of treats.

Rather, I want to look at what Halloween has become, and how it is a harbinger, another “sign of the times.”

Victims of genocide

PERHAPS the most short-sighted aspect of our modern culture is the notion that we are on a linear path of advancement. That we are leaving behind, in the wake of human achievement, the barbarism and narrow-minded thinking of past generations and cultures. That we are loosening the shackles of prejudice and intolerance and marching toward a more democratic, free, and civilized world.

This assumption is not only false, but dangerous.

Understanding Francis

AFTER Pope Benedict XVI relinquished the seat of Peter, I sensed in prayer several times the words: You have entered into dangerous days. It was the sense that the Church is entering into a period of great confusion.

Enter: Pope Francis.

Not unlike Blessed John Paul II’s papacy, our new pope has also overturned the deeply rooted sod of the status quo. He has challenged everyone in the Church in one way or another. Several readers, however, have written me with concern that Pope Francis is departing from the Faith by his unorthodox actions, his blunt remarks, and seemingly contradictory statements. I have been listening for several months now, watching and praying, and feel compelled to respond to these questions regarding our Pope’s candid ways….

Laborers Are Few

THERE is an "eclipse of God" in our times, a "dimming of the light" of truth, says Pope Benedict. As such, there is a vast harvest of souls in need of the Gospel. However, the other side to this crisis is that laborers are few… Mark explains why faith is not a private matter and why it is everyone’s calling to live and preach the Gospel with our lives—and words.
