These are surreal days. Even for me, after writing about these things for 20 years, it’s surreal to see them being fulfilled in real time.

For instance, in 2007 I sensed the Spirit warning of The Great Vacuum the Church has largely left in the world by a lack of true shepherding and public sins. That article spoke of how the youth are being prepped to follow a false gospel, if not become violent persecutors, through a barrage of propaganda and corrupt entertainment. A revolutionary spirit was being stirred in them. That article also spoke of how God is simultaneously forming an Army of Light — if not martyrs — for these times and ultimately predicted the hour through which we are now living. It’s a warning that has come to fruition as the armies of light and darkness have been formed, for the teenagers of yesterday (when I wrote that) are now the young adults of today.Continue reading →

On Growing Old

It was just an ordinary run to the dump — some old boards, bags of garbage, and a bit of Spring cleaning. I tossed away a broken laundry basket full of old worn out shoes that once belonged to my children. But it stopped me in my tracks. As I studied those shoes, I remembered taking my eight kids to the store, buying them boots or runners, the smiles on their faces with a new pair of footwear. They played football on the front lawn, ran through the mud, climbed snowbanks or milked a cow in those shoes.

But now all but one of those kids have left home. The shoes that carried my loved ones no longer have purpose. So there I stood at the landfill, tears in my eyes as raw memories raced through my mind. I took a deep breath and sighed, “I’m growin’ old.”Continue reading →

True hope does not lie in knowing the future, but in knowing its Author. I think many people today are scrolling the news, or looking for a certain politician or leader, or turn of events or even prophetic websites like Countdown to the Kingdom that would offer a glimmer of hope to change the course of things. Yes, knowing of a coming Era of Peace or “triumph of the Immaculate Heart”, or knowing that God “wins in the end” as the cliché goes, can be a hopeful message. But it can quickly be drowned out with the next glum headline or personal misfortune and suffering in our own lives. Out of My Control

It’s out of my control. 

I watched as yet another rain-packed storm passed by our drought-stricken land for the fourth week in a row. It’s so dry now that the leaves on some of the poplar trees have begun turning yellow — in July. It’s a helpless feeling to smell the rain, to see it fall in the distance, while the crunchy grass beneath my feet turns to powder.[1]Ironically, this has been one of the coldest summers in memory! All of the aforementioned titles are beautiful — but they’re also meaningless unless Jesus is just, unless there is an accountability for every thought, word, and action. Otherwise, He would be a partial judge, and love and truth would be an ever shifting ideal. No, this is His world. We are His creatures. Jesus not only came to “set the captives free” but to heal us of the effects of captivity — slavery to sin.

He was pierced for our sins, crushed for our iniquity. He bore the punishment that makes us whole, by his wounds we were healed. (Isaiah 53:5)

Thus, the ministry of Jesus began with not only the proclamation to “repent and believe the good news” but involved “curing every disease and illness among the people.”[1]Matthew 4:23 Today, Jesus still heals. The sick are being cured in His name, the eyes of the blind are being opened, the deaf are hearing, the lame walk again, and even the dead are being raised. It’s true! A simple search on the internet reveals the testimonies of countless people who have experienced the healing power of Jesus Christ in our times. The Spirit of Prophecy

 

So much of the discourse on prophecy today is about the “signs of the times”, the distress of the nations, and future events. Wars, rumors of wars, upheaval in nature, society, and the Church dominates discussion. Add to that the more dramatic prophecies of a coming Warning, refuges, and the appearance of Antichrist. 

Of course, much if not all of this is documented in the Revelation to St. John (the Apocalypse). But in the midst of the tumult, an angel “wielding great authority”[1]Rev 18:1 declares to the apostle: 

The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. (Rev 19:20)

This is the very heart of all authentic prophecy: the Word of Jesus, who is the “Word made flesh.”[2]cf. John 1:14 Every apparition, every private revelation, every word of knowledge and prediction has as its locus Jesus Christ — His mission, life, death, and resurrection. Testing Prophets

Some 20 years ago when I was “called to the wall” to begin The Now Word apostolate, setting aside to a large degree my music ministry, few people wanted to engage discussion of the “signs of the times.” Bishops seemed embarrassed by it; laity changed the subject; and mainstream Catholic thinkers simply avoided it. Even five years ago when we launched Countdown to the Kingdom, this project of publicly discerning prophecy was openly mocked. In many ways, it was to be expected:

…Remember the words spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, for they told you, “In [the] last time there will be scoffers who will live according to their own godless desires.” (Jude 1:18-19)

It’s remarkable how, all of a sudden, the Charismatic Renewal is under a fresh attack from several quarters. And you have to ask why. The actual movement itself has faded in most places, like a wave that has settled into a trough. Many who experienced the graces of this movement — approved by every single pope since it was birthed in 1967 — have mostly gone “into the deep.” They understood that this outpouring of the Holy Spirit was intended to enrich the entire Body of Christ and birth new apostolates; that it was meant to lead one into contemplation and increased love of Our Lord in the Eucharist; that it was intended to foster a hunger for the Word of God and growth in the truths of our Faith, while drawing us into deeper devotion to Our Lady, the Mother of the Church, and “first Charismatic.”Continue reading →

There is a video circulating of popular Catholic exorcist, Fr. Chad Rippberger, that throws into question the catholicity of the “gift of tongues” mentioned frequently by St. Paul and Our Lord Jesus himself. His video, in turn, is being used by a small but increasingly vocal segment of self-described “traditionalists” who, ironically, are actually departing from Sacred Tradition and the clear teaching of Sacred Scripture, as you’ll see.
